Professional Conduct Officer
JOB TITLE: Professional Conduct Officer (six month fixed term contract)
SALARY: £28K pro rata plus excellent benefits
REPORTING TO: Head of Professional Conduct
OBJECTIVE: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Legal Officer/Administrator to join this Royal Educational/Regulatory Body based in Central London. The ideal candidate will have experience of complaint handling ideally working for a regulatory authority or a membership/Educational organisation. A legal background would be advantageous. The role will be to provide administrative support for the Professional Conduct Department and to provide advice on professional conduct issues to veterinary surgeons and members of the public and to support the handling of complaints.
Support Case managers with all aspects of case handling and administration.
Assist with complaints investigations, including telephone enquiries to veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and members of the public.
Support Disciplinary solicitors with case preparation and administration.
- Assist in liaison with witnesses for Disciplinary cases.
Correspond with complainants and veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses who are the subject of a complaint, including notification of reviews.
Attendance at monthly PIC meetings to take minutes of the meetings, as necessary.
Assist with preparation of PIC agenda / preparation of bundles / CPD and PI requests for those at PIC.
Distribution of new PIC cases to Committee members.
Arranging visits (including reviews) for the Chief Investigator and Veterinary Investigators and external room bookings as required/maintaining records of reviews and review statistics.
Provide advice on professional conduct issues specifically those arising from the Code of Conduct; by telephone or in writing to veterinary surgeons and members of the public.
Analysis / preparation of reports of complaints and advice statistics from listed case factors.
Assist generally with the work of the department, including photocopying, scanning of documents and filing.
Assist the Head of Department with projects on an ad hoc basis.
- Ideally hold a legal qualification
- Clear, concise, logical and practical approach to issues
- Ability to understand complex problems and think through solutions or theories
- Good writing and drafting skills
- IT skills - database management and Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Powerpoint
- Excellent telephone manner
- Ability to work as part of a team
