Assistant Accountant + Study
A large, professional services consultancy with an annual group turnover of £150M. Despite the size of the group, they operate a small accounting function, which relies on long service, experience, and a genuine sense of teamwork in order to get the job done.
Outline of role
To provide support and assistance with all aspects of weekly, monthly and annual financial accounting, tax and treasury duties for a limited liability partnership. Turnover > £110m
The successful candidate will need to work closely with the rest of the finance department (15 people) to ensure that consistency and best practice is developed and maintained within the function and to develop proactive relationships within the company.
Where needed will be responsible for holiday cover for other members of the team including sub-consultant ledger, credit control and weekly financial reporting.
The financial accounting function provides systems expertise to the accounting function, a full knowledge and understanding of book-keeping entries behind the transactions created during processing is required.
The role would suit an individual who is studying for an Accounting Technician level qualification or been an Accountancy graduate with relevant work experience. There will be an opportunity to study further and qualify as an Accountant.
The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively at all levels. They will also have a good knowledge of Excel and Word including the use of formulae to manipulate data to produce reports. Use of VLook ups and Pivot Tables. Crystal database reporting or basic programming would also be an advantage.
A methodical individual with an attention to detail and an ability to be able to work alone and as well as be part of a team.
Day to day duties
Act as backup to the Financial Accountant with reporting, systems and VAT knowledge where required.
Weekly bank reconciliations.
Balance sheet reconciliations, including control accounts.
Helping to produce the annual LLP Financial Statements and consolidation reporting pack.
Production of EC sales lists and assisting with the preparation of the quarterly VAT return.
Production of reports for the annual audit and for the LLP’s tax return. Involvement in the calculation of WIP / Accrued Income.
Accounting systems maintenance and updating 'Crystal’ (database) reporting. AD hoc duties as required.
