An Infrastructure Support Engineer with experience of VMware and Windows Server is required for a Computer Software provider in Central London on a permanent basis.

Role: Infrastructure Support Engineer

Salary: Up to £50,000pa + benefits

Location: Central London

Required: SC security clearance or ability to be SC security cleared

General Responsibilities:

  • To adopt a proactive approach in providing ICT support and advice to staff and, where necessary, clients
  • To respond to ICT support requests in a timely fashion, ensuring minimum disruption of day-to-day company activities
  • To be available for weekly on call-rota when needed
  • To record accurately and prioritise support requests, outcomes, risks and time taken in the ticketing system
  • Enforce and maintain company’s security policies, report any suspected breaches

Operational Duties:

  • Develop with the ICT team the maintenance schedule for all hardware, software and network
  • Install and upgrade systems and application software as required, adhering to licensing regulations, company policies and best practice
  • To install, maintain, upgrade and repair a wide range of ICT equipment (phones, laptops, desktops, tablets, printers, projectors, sound systems, routers, servers…)
  • To maintain hosting and Dev environments (VMWare 5.5/6.0, Windows server 2012, Linux, FreeBSD, IBM BladeCenter, Dell Blade servers)
  • To maintain the company network, which is based on Cisco equipment
  • To troubleshoot and fix problems, relating to the malfunctioning of ICT equipment including software
  • Perform preventive maintenance duties on items in ICT hardware
  • Monitor and keep a log of all breakdowns and alterations to the network
  • Maintain company AD and email system
  • Assist/maintain the telephone system based on SIP/Asterisk servers and Cisco phones
  • Ensure access policy for staff to data and files is implemented
  • Follow backup, virus protection and security procedures, note risks to ICT systems
  • Support for the London management / support team (~20 people, most of them IT engineers): Dell Latitude laptops, OptiPlex workstations; Windows 8.1 Pro / 10 Pro workstations, MS Office, MS Visio, MS Project, ESET Antivirus etc.

Other duties as may be assigned by the directors and senior management

Other Activities

  • Assist and co-operate with the Corporate Department on:

o Computer and hard disks recycling, arranging for the safe disposal of the same

o Inventory of computer hardware and software (including licenses)

  • Monitor and maintain general ICT consumable stock
  • Assist in purchase of technical products/equipment

Job Context:

Maintenance of and planning of company-wide ICT infrastructure including outposts in data centers and network links with associated companies overseas

Beneficial attributes:

  • CCNA / CCNP
  • Industry standard security certifications (Cisco, CompTIA, SANS)
  • Experience with corporate SAN [FC, iSCSI, etc.] solutions
  • Hands-on VoIP experience [SIP with Asterisk; Cisco CME etc.]
  • Solaris SPARC and x86 administration experience

Education Experience and Status:

  • Several years’ experience in managing networks in a similar environment
  • Relevant technical qualifications
  • UK government security cleared to SC level
