Deputy Chief Porter required for Historic and well respected organisation based in Central London.

Upto £30,000

The role will be to supervise the team of staff undertaking security, portering and cleaning within the organisation, and to assist in maintaining and reviewing compliance within Health and Safety guidelines. Also to assist in the daily supervision, and annual refurbishment of student accommodation, to monitor and assist in the administration of security systems, CCTV, Access Control and key Management. To liaise with Clients' in respect of the functions associated with the Chief Porter's department.

Main Duties

The following list of duties is indicative of the nature of the post. Priorities, time-scales and standards will be set in agreement with management, recognising the level of professional competence of the post-holder.

1.To supervise the staff in the team, ensuring that they are set realistic and challenging work goals and objectives and maintain such records as are required to ensure compliance with the Working Time Regulations 1998.

2.To provide porters and wardens as required for special functions and for outside functions, liaising with Departmental Heads. To organise all rotas for Wardens and Porters and ensure that any overtime, if required, is fairly applied.

3.To assist with the control and conduct of day to day security within the organisation, ensuring all cameras, alarms, and keys are effectively managed, liaising with the local Police and VIP Protection Officers with regard to all special events.

4.To assist in ensuring that all money received at the Gatehouse for permits, tickets, Chapel collections, and ancillary sales are securely held and banked, and the requisite accounts maintained.

5.To liaise with service providers when extra staff are required. For example Bank Holiday security shifts.

6.To supervise arrangements for security, cleaning, waste disposal and recycling in all relevant areas; supervise the cleaning and security contractors, ensuring a high quality service and value for money.

7.To assist in undertaking an active role in maintaining a health and safety culture at the Inn, arranging such training as may be required for First Aiders and Fire Wardens; to arrange Fire Walks as required.

8.When required, to liaise with Clients' with regard to security of premises.

9.To ensure that all relevant staff know how to operate the burglar and fire alarms and are aware of the action to be taken when they are activated and for changing codes when necessary or when ordered.

10.To assist with car parking arrangements including waiting lists, the issue and control of annual/casual parking permits and permits for contractors and skips.

11.To assist in ensuring all relevant documentation is filed correctly.

12.To provide, when necessary, a first point of contact with the Inn's staff for members, tenants and members of the public.

13.To assist in ensuring that students who are allocated rooms maintain their allocated areas of responsibility and that inventories are carried out when students arrive and depart.

14.To assist in the provision of out of hours emergency cover when required, liaising with tenants and contractors to promptly resolve any issues.

15.To undertake such self-development and training pertinent to the post as may be required.

Person Specification

The following criteria will be used to shortlist applicants for interview. Please ensure you detail how you meet the criteria within your application.

1.A good command of written and spoken English is essential to be able to communicate well and with a customer focus with all staff members, Clients and of the general public.

2.A minimum of 2 years in a junior management role with direct responsibility for staff.

3.To demonstrate a high level of integrity and honesty in positions previously held.

4.To show good prioritising and organisational skills with the ability to keep calm whilst under pressure.

5.Good numeracy skills with ideally the experience of cash handling.

6.To be able to work as part of a team, as well as working on their own initiative.

7.Smart appearance with a confident demeanour and positive attitude.

8.Prepared to work flexibly to meet the business operational needs.

9.Can apply a common sense approach, analyse issues, make informed judgements and subsequently take appropriate actions and accept responsibility for results when handling issues and/or resolving problems.

10.Ability and experience of negotiating confidently and persuasively with people at high levels, on both an internal and external basis.

11.Can consider issues from the Inn point of view and have an awareness of the impact of own activities on the achievement of the Inn's objectives and values.

12.A good level of Computer literacy, with experience in using Word, Excel, Outlook and other computer based programs.

13.Current SIA Front Line Door Supervisor licence, IOSH Managing Safely, First Aid at Work and De-Fib certificates highly desirable, but not necessary. Must be willing to attend and qualify if successful.
