Austin Fraser is proud to be supporting one of the most exciting Biopharmaceutical companies in the world who is looking to hire a highly experienced and talented Head of QC to join their team in Berkshire.The site had its best year ever last year and is performing to an upward trend as they take on more new, complex, and innovative development projects for both clinical and commercial sectors. Although a Global brand with 1000's of employees worldwide, the Berkshire site has a family feel and Quality in the business is highly regarded, this role will lead the team of circa 55-60 staff with 4 direct reports.

This role sits on the Site Leadership Team and participates in goal setting for the site. Leading a team of QC team leaders responsible for the successful delivery of all Quality Control laboratory activities for the site.

The Head of Quality Control will have overall responsibility for the direction, policy setting and planning of all QC assigned areas.

Job Description


Lead and manage a team of QC leaders to successfully deliver all Quality Control laboratory activities on site, forging links internally, with other company sites and customers.

Responsibility for the direction, policy setting and planning of QC assigned areas.

Oversee the quality control laboratory activities within site to ensure materials and products are safe and tested for other factors which may affect product quality attributes.

Develop departmental plans, including quality control testing standards and related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Participate in goal setting for the site as a member of the Site Leadership Team.

Responsible for GMP compliance with recognized local and international standards such as stipulated by US FDA, UK MHRA and other regulating authorities.

Responsible for strategic planning of new equipment and technical innovations in testing

You will be educated to degree level, in a scientific discipline or have equivalent experience together with the following:


Have gained significant demonstratable experience in a core QC role in a manufacturing environment from a large pharma / biotech background.

Demonstratable strong leadership skills, interpersonal skills with an excellent understanding of QC together with excellent communication skills are essential

Strong organisational abilities, attention to detail and a flexible/pragmatic approach will are essential

Demonstrated ability to handle external regulator and customer audits of the quality control laboratories methodologies

Be a highly effective communicator

Ability to take a strategic and tactical approach - looking at the 'bigger picture'

Proven track record of delivery

Proven track record of problem-solving and continuous improvement
