Therapeutic Childcare Practitioner

Standlake, Oxfordshire

For nearly 70 years, The Mulberry Bush School has been providing the highest quality specialist therapeutic care to vulnerable and emotionally troubled children, aged 5 to 13, and their families. Our aim is to break the cycle of disadvantage they have suffered due to trauma in their early years. The evidence is clear that the early intervention provided by the School produces excellent outcomes by giving the children a safe and nurturing environment in which to build a better future. Without that intervention, it becomes very difficult for a child to live in a mainstream family, school or community.

Group Living is the term we use for the work of the residential households at the Mulberry Bush. Currently we have four houses, each with a team of 10 staff, providing the therapeutic care, treatment and support to the children who live there during term time.

In response to need we are now preparing to provide 52 week therapeutic care to children who are currently unable to manage within a family and who require intensive support to enable stable integration into a family setting. In November 2016 building work commenced on our fifth house, The Burrow. The Burrow is a an eight-bed bespoke property designed to enable us to achieve our aim of maximising the therapeutic support that we can offer to children, families and professional networks working with children requiring 52 week residential therapeutic care.

The completion date for this project is February 2018 at which time we will extend our registration to meet the requirements of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations. This is an exciting opportunity to join our highly professional, dedicated and skilled team and to contribute to the culture and evolution of The Mulberry Bush.

In preparation for the opening of The Burrow we are now recruiting for the following post:
