Principal Transport Planner
About the Role
Our Transport Team undertakes largely development planning work specialising in providing advice to private sector and some local authority clients on access, transportation and infrastructure issues and supporting development proposals through the planning process.
The Godalming transport team is 20 strong and sits within the wider south central cost centre working closely with colleagues in Basingstoke and Southampton making the wider transport team over 50 specialist consultants and engineers.
The role will has a key function in leading on the development and delivery of transport planning projects within major framework commissions and to developers and will include providing development control expertise to Highways England.
A typical week could include:
Providing managerial and technical support to the Transportation Planning team, by undertaking a wide range of roles from leading teams of support professionals and junior staff, managing projects to a successful conclusion within time and budget, presentation of results, report writing, advice to clients, developing graduates and technicians in extending their skills.
A range of transport planning techniques and develop a strategic awareness of their work.
Assisting in business development of the Transportation Planning group, including providing technical and managerial input to marketing material, proposals and tender submissions.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
Significant experience in a consultant or local/central government working in the transport planning field.
Project management experience of development related transportation planning and infrastructure projects.
Good analytical skills and experience in modelling techniques and traffic impact assessments
Preparation and/or presentation of evidence for public inquiries/planning appeals desirable
Preparation of clear and concise technical reports.
Flexibility to work in a variety of locations and commissions.
Up to date knowledge on latest transport policies and legislations, design standards and planning process applicable to the UK.
A relevant degree, preferably in Transport, Engineering, Maths or Geography.
Chartered Engineer status or TPP and MCILT, MCIT or MICE.
