Job Description:

Leonardo has established itself as a key provider of IFF capability. Working with Platform Design Organisations (PDOs) and IFF equipment manufacturers to provide turnkey solutions to upgrade customers' land, air and sea fleets. We are now looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team working with international customers to develop the upgrade solutions for their fleets. This will be carried out in conjunction with our existing partners and the relevant Platform Design Organisations (PDOs). The emphasis in this role is on strong engineering leadership. The role will require interfacing with customers at a high level, planning and delivering complex integration programmes, and working closely with large PDOs.

Key Responsibility Areas:

The primary role is to agree and deliver the Mode 5 solution across all applicable platforms for a number of export customers. This will involve working closely with the programme delivery teams, partners, suppliers, customers and PDOs. The complexity (and potentially dynamic) nature of the programme will require the candidate to possess exceptional leadership, influencing, negotiation and diplomacy skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Agree, maintain, manage and report on the Mode 5 engineering programme
  • Lead and develop the engineering team.
  • Deliver the overall engineering solution on time, to cost and meeting performance requirements
  • Own and implement the overall engineering plan, establishing key performance measures, milestones and interdependencies
  • Working as a member of the Mode 5 management team, Manage the risk and opportunity on the programme
  • Work closely with the appointed Design, Safety, Security and Design Integrity Authorities to ensure that the delivered technical solution will meet the performance, contractual and legislative requirements (and within the defined / agreed constraints).
  • Manage the interface between engineering and other functions.
  • Manage the interface between engineering and Customers, Partners and Suppliers.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required:

  • Educated to degree level in engineering related subject or equivalent experience (Essential)
  • Previous experience of leadership of complex, high value technical programmes (Essential)
  • Proven track record of working effectively with industrial partners in the UK and Overseas (essential)
  • Knowledge of the Engineering Lifecycle (Essential)
  • Strong leadership skills. Ability to foster and develop effective working relationships in diverse situations (Essential)
  • Ability to deliver as part of a team (Essential)
  • Ability to manage multi-skilled and geographically dispersed teams (Essential)
  • Enthusiastic and Motivated (Essential)
  • Commercially aware (Essential)
  • Ability to quickly solve complex problems (Essential)
  • Previous experience of managing engineering teams in a partnering environment (Highly Desirable)
  • Knowledge and experience of working into military platform level design organisations (Highly Desirable)
  • Knowledge (and experience of) large scale integration programmes (Highly Desirable)
  • Knowledge (and experience) of test and evaluation and release-to-service processes (Land / Air /Sea) (Highly Desirable)

Intrinsic Job Factors:

  • This role will be based at Leonardo office in Capability Green
  • In addition the candidate will be required to conduct regular travel within the UK and oversees, to work with engineering specialists in other sites, customers, partners, suppliers and PDOs
