Busy accountancy practice currently with two offices in North Leeds seeks a Senior Accountant to provide and deliver high quality tax, accountancy & VAT services with the personal touch that our small business clients demand. You will work closely with all the existing team including the senior practice accountant and the Director and will be taking a leading role in the preparation and checking of final work.

They specialise in providing accountancy services, tax returns, payroll, bookkeeping, tax savings and tax advice to small businesses. They have over 70,000 clients including; Sole Traders, Partnerships, Limited Companies and Personal Tax Payers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

You will support the senior practice accountant and the Director, you will need to be able to prepare the more difficult accounts, although the majority of the work is for small businesses to £500,000 t/o. The Practice has been operating for 20 years and has established processes in place, along with access to excellent ongoing training & technical support in all aspects of the role.

You will be client facing and take on a portfolio of new and existing clients to manage.

The role includes the following duties and therefore you are required to have technical experience in:

  • Reviewing & preparing of Self Assessment Tax Returns and accounts for sole traders and partnerships.
  • Reviewing & preparing Ltd Company management accounts, year-end accounts and Corporation Tax Returns with knowledge of ixbrl.
  • Reviewing & preparing VAT Returns along with Online Submission.
  • Assisting and training other members of staff.

Any new training will be provided in learning the practice software, however, experience with accounting and tax software such as Sage Accounts Production, CCH Central and Quickbooks Online will be an advantage but not essential.

Candidate Requirements:

You will have proven accounts and taxation experience and will have worked in practice for a number of years. You must have relevant and recent small practice experience and be used to working on your own initiative. Ideally, you will be qualified or studying towards ACCA/ACA, or hold an accountancy degree. However, we would also welcome your application if you are qualified by experience.

You must have a good working knowledge of accounts preparation and computations of taxes with the ability to hit the ground running and assist with complex tasks. As a successful candidate you will also have:

• Exceptional communication/presentation skills,

• Drive & ambition with a high focus towards customer service.

You will also have a sound knowledge of accounting principles and strong business acumen. Your tax knowledge must be up to date and you will need good IT skills.

You must have good people skills, be highly organized and be able to work unsupervised to strict deadlines. You must have a good command of the English language (both spoken and written) as the job involves writing of technical emails to clients.
