This role sits within the Infrastructure and Private Cloud Practice whose primary function is to ensure the efficient support and implementation of infrastructure supporting applications via employing a DevOps approach to improve flow, remove bottlenecks and develop continuous improvement within the teams.

This role has line management for the Linux Services, Windows Services and Database Services technical towers which, in addition to implementation work, all act as escalation points for the UK Support team.

The objective of this role is to reduce the amount of time that it takes to deploy customer infrastructure and to improve the customer satisfaction by ensuring that customer incidents are responded to within SLA.

To deliver customer infrastructure by leveraging modern automation technologies to streamline the implementation process.


• Day-to-day line management of the Application Services team.
• Implementation and management of effective and timely incident resolution.
• Perform regular performance reviews with the platform services team members.
• To understand the implementation workflow for deployment of customer infrastructure onto dedicated and shared platforms.
• Work closely with Enterprise Architect, Platform and Storage & Backup teams to provide support in the automation technologies.
• To standardise tooling where appropriate and to cultivate Best Practice Sharing across the teams.
• Drive efficiencies, through automation and process design and implementation in particular in the automation of Application deployment methodologies via the use of DevOps tooling.
• Participate in problem management on a day to day basis and during major incidents.
• Undertake additional projects and support tasks as appropriate to the role.
• Act as an escalation point through expert knowledge.
• Maintain an in-depth knowledge of all vendor technologies relevant to Claranet platforms.


• Education to degree level or equivalent.

Technical Skills:
• A comprehensive understanding of the following:
o Microsoft Windows Server (2008, 2012, 2016)
o Linux (Redhat, CentOS, Ubuntu, SuSE)
o vSphere
o vCloud Director
o vRealize Orchestrator
• A good understanding of the following DevOps technologies:
o Ansible
o Puppet
o Jenkins
o Vagrant
• Experience of scripting or coding
• Experience of application deployment methodologies and lifecycle management.

Essential Skills:

• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) for colleagues and customers
• Ability to translate technical language for the appropriate audience
• Good understanding of IT Service Management
• Proven analytical and problem solving skills

• Experience of implementing DevOps methodologies within traditional service provider environment.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as computer documentation, hardware operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write business reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of managers, vendors and colleagues.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Understanding of ITIL and ISO 20000/27001 processes.
• Experience of working in a support function with an IT service provider
