Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Field Service Engineer

We are looking for an NMR Field Service Engineer to provide hands-on technical expertise in all aspects of installation, commissioning, customer training, maintenance, fault-finding and technical support for Varian, Agilent, Bruker and JEOL spectrometers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the on-site installation, testing and trouble-shooting of NMR spectrometer systems. System installation requires the physical setting up of the spectrometer, room temperature shims, pneumatic air system, gradient coils and sample robot (where necessary), warm and cryogenically cooled probes, peripheral electronics and software. All installations are calibrated and tested upon completion to ensure they meet agreed specifications.
  • Responsible for complete NMR spectrometer installations, upgrades and trouble-shooting of performance related issues.
  • Able to install warm and cryogenically cooled NMR probes, and trouble-shooting of performance-related issues.
  • Fault-finding within the NMR system hardware, software, peripheral subsystems and electronics.
  • Understand and resolve environmentally induced spectrometer performance issues; including vibration, electromagnetic fields, radio frequency etc and how they manifest on NMR data.
  • Provide site planning support to potential and existing customers to ensure new installations and upgrades proceed without issue.
  • Provide system technical support via telephone and video conferencing platforms.
  • Communicate and work closely with UK and USA service support centers.

Qualifications and experience

Essential experience

  • Honors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or related discipline.
  • Proven track record in the installation and testing of liquids and solids NMR spectrometers. Preferably with knowledge of Varian, Agilent, Bruker and JEOL systems.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Analog and Digital electronic systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Clean, valid drivers' license.
