Objectives of the postTo ensure that eligible children receive assessments, plans and service packages appropriate to meet their needs and improve their life chances.Main DutiesTo ensure that the welfare of the child or young person is paramount at all times.To carry out assessments and care manage child care plans within government and departmental prescribed timescales and standards, as required by the Practice / or Principal Manager.To ensure that children, young people and their families are fully involved in the process of assessment and care management.To ensure that service user records are maintained in accordance with Departmental procedures, and that information required for management purposes is recorded and inputted appropriately.To ensure that the department's and authority's resources are deployed efficiently and effectively at all times.To be responsible for the allocation of appropriate tasks to Social Work Assistants, and to provide the necessary support and guidance for the completion of those tasks.ResponsibilitiesTo take personal responsibility for continuing professional development including modules of the specialist Post Qualifying Specialist Childcare Award, and for achieving and maintaining the required level of performance for the post.To be responsible for effective time management and responding flexibly to the needs of the service.To provide support and cover for other staff as required by the Practice and / or Principal Manager.To actively participate in the performance management system including supervision, PDR, team meetings, section and divisional briefings and reviews of service.To ensure that departmental health and safety procedures and standards are followed in the performance of all duties.To have Commitment to developing skills through work experience in a range of divisional situations i.e. routine secondments, job rotation and shadowing.To be responsible for contributing to information management processes in the department.To take responsibility under the direction of the Principal or Practice Manager for the support of social work students on placement and act as workplace supervisor or Practice Teacher if appropriately trained.Young Carers:To be an information and practice resource on young carers. To provide advice to Children's Social Care staff on individual cases of young carers including Carer Assessment.Person Specification:Appropriate Social Work qualification - Social Work Degree, DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalentMeet GSCC Registration and Re-registration requirements.Must read, understand and agree to comply with the Code of Practice for Social care Workers.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.Ability to relate effectively to children and their parents.Ability to foster good inter and intra agency communication and to listen sensitively to different perspectives.Able to interpret and use management information, including financial management information.Able to use IT as an effective resource.Demonstrate the ability to achieve results.Demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team.Direct work with vulnerable children and their families.As well as current HCPC registration you must have two years post qualified experience in safeguarding and child protection workThis post will require an Enhanced DBS Disclosure (must be issued within the last 12 months)
