Epimorphics is hiring for a junior or mid level Back End Java Developer, collaborating on projects that make a positive societal and environmental impact and benefiting from mentoring from some of the most accomplished computer scientists in the Linked Data world.

We're an exciting company at the cutting edge of Open Data publication in the UK. Our clients’ Linked Data and Semantic Web applications model intricate relationships within large volumes of data e.g.; enabling near real-time river and flood reporting for the Environment Agency; allowing the public to check bathing water quality in England and Wales; and helping the Food Standards Agency use data to make better decisions about the food we eat.

You can make a direct contribution right away. We're a flat structured team with an Agile / iterative approach and you'll be empowered to take initiative and make decisions. We're proponents of open source and you can influence technology choice, architecture and design, enjoying direct access to support and unparalleled technical knowledge from senior colleagues.

We can support career aspirations around; software engineering and solution design; data modelling and representing complex data using novel approaches; infrastructure and automation; or, client-facing delivery aspects.

Example projects

Developing software tools and platform components to integrate data and deliver data service APIs

Developing infrastructure tools and components to help automate, monitor and test our data services

Working with our data modellers and UX designers to deliver data projects for customers

Investigating and evaluating new technology, tools and techniques for use in our services

We're looking for

Someone positive about learning and applying a mix of technologies

Demonstrable Java skills - gained through industry, study, internship or own projects

Solid foundations in software engineering, through study or practice

Familiarity with modern software tools and techniques

Competence with scripting languages, such as Ruby or JavaScript

Familiarity with Linux, and/or deploying to cloud based services, such as AWS

Someone who has - or who'd like to gain - skills in data intensive projects, especially if includes use of Linked Data or Big Data technologies

Or, someone who has - or who'd like to gain - skills in DevOps – not just the coding of software, but the art and craft of deploying, scaling and supporting software-based infrastructure services
