About Us

This is an opportunity to join our team of 25 based in our Macclesfield, Cheshire headquarters. We design and manufacture high value (£250K+) robotic machines for testing printed circuit boards (PCB's). These complex products comprise electronic hardware, software, motion control, machine vision and precision mechanics.

A high proportion of our sales are in China and the USA. We have wholly owned subsidiaries in both these locations. Our staff in these locations provides sales and support for these key market areas.
We have been established for 13 years and are the world leader in this niche market.

About the role

A Software and Applications Engineer is needed for the expansion of our in-house software team. You will be an experienced software engineer with experience of electronics design. You will have a hands on practical approach to engineering and the drive to learn every aspect of our machines design and operation. We will provide you with training and the support of our experienced engineers so that you can become the go to person interfacing between development and our field service engineers, as well as a key software developer. The role is varied and interesting, ranging from developing cutting edge image processing algorithms, precise motion control routines, machine setup and operation through to diagnosing issues that our customers are experiencing.

You will have a well-developed common sense and creative vision, to be capable of both working in a team and autonomously lead independent development projects. Numerical methods and image processing background is a plus.

Essential skills:

• .NET Framework – C#, VB
• Ability to develop multithreaded solutions
• Experience in desktop UI development
• Experience in working with TFS
• Engineering background
• Quick learning and prompt issue resolution
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies
• Ability to design software solutions
• Experience of electronic systems
• Ability to provide accurate estimates of work and meet them
• Ability to work under pressure and towards tight deadlines

Desirable skills:

• Knowledge of C++ (MSVC)
• Experience in WPF or UWP UI development
• Hardware integration experience – USB, TCP/IP, etc.
• Knowledge of UML
• Experience in implementing numerical methods, HPC and GPU programming
• Experience in working with industrial image acquisition (e.g. CameraLink, GigE)
