We’re looking for a client-focused individual with experience of providing advice on housing and eviction issues, to join us as a Housing Adviser and help us prevent homelessness in the future.
Shelter Scotland helps over half a million people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
As well as a free telephone helpline, which helps over 10,000 people each year, Shelter Scotland’s advice service consists of a number of projects and four core Integrated City Hubs. One such hub is in Glasgow, which houses a range of service provisions, including housing, money and debt, welfare benefits, and our innovative new service Advice + which provides both advice and support to people who may have a range of complex problems that they need additional help to resolve.
About the role:
As Housing Adviser you will be responsible for delivering an outcome focused advice and support service on all areas of housing law, including 2nd tier advice to other agencies. Agreeing clients’ needs and identifying desired outcomes/actions, including, where necessary, making referrals or providing mediation between the client and their landlord will also be important. And with the support of a Senior Adviser you will undertake work on aspects of complex advocacy cases too.
We’re looking for someone with demonstrable experience of advice work with a focus on housing issues and a proactive, collaborative and innovative approach, sensitivity to others’ needs and the communication skills it takes to positively influence others. You’ll also need a flair for getting to the root of client’s underlying needs, encouraging others to accept change and actively contributing new ideas and approaches. Good typing skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and case management systems is also required.
