Role overview

Gatwick Airport is changing at an outstanding pace and this presents an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced IT project manager to be part of the Baggage IT team driving Gatwick’s journey to technology leadership.

The primary responsibility of the role is to lead the delivery of Baggage IT system work streams into major baggage projects to time, budget, and quality. Delivery will be in accordance Gatwick standards and processes.

Principal accountabilities

The main accountabilities of the role are:

  • Delivery of Baggage IT System project work streams to agreed timescales, quality and budget
  • Coordinate Baggage IT implementation activities with multiple project and operational teams
  • Adherence to all relevant airport processes during implementation activities
  • Clear and appropriate communications with all stakeholders
  • Manage and communicate progress on Baggage Integrator and IT activities
  • Identify, define and scope technical project risks, issues, constraints, changes, interdependencies
  • Day to day management of Baggage IT supplier development and testing activities
  • Delivery of Baggage IT System project work streams to agreed timescales, quality and budget
  • Driving value through cost efficient project delivery
  • Management of 3rd party and in house delivery teams
  • Promotion of a deep EHS (environment, health, and safety) culture and adherence to EHS procedures

Qualifications and experience

The candidate should have a strong background in general IT infrastructure, IT systems integration, automation/controls and engineering. Solid experience of best practice project management gained in a complex, fast-paced environment is absolutely essential.

The role will require the following:

  • Proven track record of major IT system and automation controls project implementation within a fast-paced and challenging commercial environment.
  • Strong experience of end to end project planning and delivery for landscape changing infrastructure projects in a blue chip/enterprise environment.
  • Strong communication, organisation, documentation and team working skills with supplier and resource matrix management.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, problem solving and decision making capability in a complex project environment.
  • Sound appreciation of the need for developing an EHS culture and clear EHS standards.
  • Essential qualifications: Educated to degree level (or equivalent) and either Prince2 Practitioner certification or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI)
  • Desirable qualification: Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v3 Foundation.
  • Thorough knowledge of Project Management tools and MS Office applications.
  • Appreciation of automation/control systems and working in an engineering environment.
  • Appreciation of the technology platforms in operation in a major airport and commercial environment.
