Scope and impact of the position

As a journalist at the best-known company for prices and information in the metals markets, the Reporter has the opportunity to assess key reference and benchmark prices and report on markets and companies to which they are relevant.

Position summary

The Price Reporter is a key player in the team that produces my clients pricing and market reporting. Reporting to the Editor she or he is responsible for price assessments, commentary and news reporting in a specific sector of the metals market. By assessing prices in line with my clients methodology and specification and producing incisive commentary and news the Price Reporter is at the forefront of my clients relationship with the industry and plays a crucial role in the development as a price reporting agency.


Discover and assess prices in line with its methodology and price specifications

Produce market commentary on prices and indexes

Research and write original, accurate and readable news stories in a timely manner

Seek opportunities to expand or modify current pricing by identifying prices to launch or promote

Specialise in an area of coverage, according to skills and experience (e.g. language ability, experience of particular countries), as directed by the editors

Play a strong role in a global market team as well as within the regional team where role is based

Cover all other aspects of news where necessary

Continually maintain and expand a list of contacts and information sources

From time to time travel out of the office, in order to: meet contacts, attend conferences, visit works, conduct interviews, attend press conferences, entertain contacts, and undertake other tasks. While on such visits, file original stories in a timely fashion

Assist in developing a programme of speakers and subject matters for conferences when required

Represent the brands prices and market coverage in public forums and private meetings as appropriate

Deal with enquiries from market participants

Participate in editorial meetings and suggest improvements to coverage

Provide leads and contacts to commercial teams

Be prepared to perform all reasonable tasks as part of the editorial team

Attend training courses as required

Key goals and objectives

Produce representative prices

Capture key market movements in price assessments and reporters

Write concise, compelling market commentary and news

Identify prices to consider launching or promoting

Develop a nuanced and knowledgeable approach to sources

Key skills, qualifications and experience

Experience in B-2-B journalism, preferably in commodities

Pricing markets experience is ideal but not essential


Strong written and spoken English

Interest in economics, commodities and metals is beneficial
