Software Engineer / PostgreSQL Developer / Software Developer

Software Engineer with skills in PostgreSQL is needed for our client, a revolutionary Aerospace company based in the Harwell-Oxford (UK) campus, Oxfordshire.

They provide simple and affordable access to space using nanosatellite technology. Having gone from design to delivery of their first nanosatellites in only four months, their first satellite was launched to the ISS in the first Orbital ATK's Cygnus capsule of 2017, and is now operating in low earth orbit.

The successful candidate will be designing and upgrading their main PostgreSQL database and will be in charge of designing, validating and commissioning for software for their mission development and management infrastructure. You will be involved in a fast design-test-iterate cycle to improve automation e.g. testing, deployment, migrations.

Space industry experience is not required.

Essential Skills / Experience:

  • Experience with PostgreSQL or PL/pgSQL including use of: asynchronous notifications, stored procedures, constraints, checks, triggers, table inheritance, ANALYZE, pl/pgSQL (i.e. not just via ORMs or basic SELECT/UPDATE/DELETE/INSERT queries).
  • Experience with server-side JavaScript
  • Ability to write and maintain unit tests
  • Familiarity with a UNIX-like command-line interface (e.g. Linux / BSD/MacOS terminals)
  • Quick learner and open to new technologies
  • Interest to work in the space industry in a startup environment
  • Experience with typical backend frameworks (e.g. Express, MVC4, Restify) not necessary.
  • Ability to work independently, with initiative and under pressure
  • Self-driven, embrace challenge and working outside of your comfort zone
  • Committed to fulfil customer requirements and expectations


  • Experience with C# and/or Java
  • Understanding of writing parsers/generators for auto-generating code/tests/documentation
  • Basic familiarity with set theory
  • Knowledge of languages other than English
  • International experience

Salary: £32,000 - £50,000 per annum + share options + company retreats
