Applied Satellite Technology Systems a leading provider of satellite communication solutions require an experienced technical support engineer for a varied and challenging role. The role encompasses both a traditional IT administrator and support aspect but will also cover satellite communication equipment and associated hardware and software applications.

The ideal candidate would have a base knowledge of all aspects IT support and engineering, a willingness to learn new skills and technologies and enjoy working in a more generalist IT area rather than specialise.

Any previous experience of working with satellite commination equipment would be an advantage although full training will be provided. A working understanding of GSM 3G/4G LTE core network elements and telecoms voice PSTN, ISDN, VoIP, SIP would also be an advantage.

Technical requirements

Experience in supporting Windows 7/8/10, Windows Server 2008/2012,

Active directory, DNS, Group Policy, WSUS,

Basic Linux administration

Office 365 administration – Server and Client Office apps

Experience of supporting MSSQL databases

Firewall configuration and management

Web Server hosting – IIS and Apache

Virtualisation – Hyper-V and VMWare

Managing Backup systems and Disaster Recovery

IP Network hardware support and configuration – Routers, Switches,

LAN/WAN technologies – TCP/IP, IPsec, SSL, VLAN’s

IT security systems – ACL’s, user permissions, Information Security management

Telecoms Voice Technologies – PSTN, ISDN, VoIP, SIP, Circuit Switched Data

Key responsibilities

1st and Second line support via email, telephone, remote support and in person.

Taking responsibility and ownership for tickets from logging through to resolution

Software updates and patching

Monitoring health and performance of network, hardware and software applications

Maintaining accurate and up to date IT documentation

Promote continuous awareness of Web, Email and Cyber Security threats

Support of satellite communications hardware, networks and associated applications

Installation of software, hardware, networking devices and satellite communications equipment

R&D and regression testing of hardware, software both COTS and bespoke in house developed software applications

Personal Requirements

Good analytical and problem solving skills

Team player with a passion for IT and technology

Enthusiastic to learn new skills and emerging technologies

Can do attitude

Able to be customer facing and provide training to technical and non-technical personnel

Full UK Driving License and a willingness for occasional travel and working away from home both in the UK and Overseas.
