Objective of role

Cogitare is a software house specialising in application development to improve our railways. We are looking for a software front end developer to:·Work closely with the team to combine software/UI knowledge with rail industry knowledge to develop new innovative software products and user interfaces to solve rail industry challenges.

·Build rich user experiences with Javascript, HTML, CSS

·Maintain and enhance front-end frameworks and packages such as Angularjs, D3, C3 charts etc.

·Supervise and mentor software development staff for both project work and career growth.

·Understand and contribute to the organisation’s application design process and best practices, and design/deliver quality code that meets these standards with a keen attention to detail

·Use research, knowledge and experience to continuously improve code usability, maintainability, supportability and portability ensuring the definition, development and documentation of all technical requirements, objectives, deliverables, and specifications

·Have a passion for learning new front-end development techniques, tools and frameworks and have the insight to know when they should be applied.

·Managing work-loads with changing and competing priorities to ensure that bug fixes, changes and project deliverables meet business and UX requirements, and are designed and delivered on time and to the required quality

BackgroundThis challenging role combines software front end development with an understanding of users and their objectives. The successful candidate will have excellent software front end development skills and be a fast learner who quickly understands the purpose and context of the UI he or she is developing.

The person will work closely with Cogitare specialists to learn valuable, highly sought after skills, which combine software development, with user and business knowledge to develop innovative software solutions to complex problems and a great UX.

Required Skills·Extensive knowledge of Javascript, HTML and CSS.

·Extensive experience working with front-end frameworks such as AngularJS.

·Knowledge of Automated Testing – Unit Testing, TDD and BDD.

·Experience with build tools such as Grunt, Gulp or Webpack.

·Experience working with charting libraries and developing complex visualisations.

·Must have: Strong attention to detail and a willingness to go the extra mile to create good user experiences.

·Knowledge of consuming REST web services written in Java.

·Ability to pick up new skills rapidly.

·Excellent problem solving skills.

·Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to gather requirements, obtain information, achieve stakeholder buy-in and develop mutually beneficial long-term working relationships.

·Excellent organisational skills enabling timely delivery.

Desirable Skills·University Degree 2:1 or higher - preferably with Masters and preferably in technical discipline.

·Experience working on enterprise analytics products.

·Data analysis, data manipulation, data mapping and data modelling skills.

·Commercial experience developing mobile apps.

·Experience of one or more of the following fields: rail, engineering, statistics, economics / finance, asset management, project management.
