Literacy Intervention Assistant - Shoreham-By-Sea, West Sussex
Shoreham Academy is a unique, successful and dynamic school at the heart of the communities of Shoreham and Southwick. The moment you walk through the door at Shoreham Academy you can feel the buzz, energy and excitement of an inclusive school that focuses on the enrichment, enhancement and learning of all children.
We are an 11-18, non-selective academy where everyone â staff and students alike â strive to âbe the best they can beâ. We see each child as an individual and seek to give them an education which best suits their abilities and interests. As adults we also see ourselves as a work in progress and invest heavily in our own professional development in order to remain challenged by what we do and inspirational in what we can give. We seek to employ enthusiastic, dynamic and inspiring staff to join us in working creatively with our young people and enabling them all to achieve great things.
The post of Literacy Intervention Assistant is a new role at Shoreham Academy. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to support students that are working below age-related expectations in English and enable students by the end of Year 8, to be reading at their chronological reading age.
Part of the role, will be supporting the Literacy Intervention Lead with the planning and delivery of Literacy intervention to small groups of underperforming students in KS3; developing specific areas such as: spelling, reading, punctuation and structuring of writing.
Last year we trialled this approach with a small number of Year 7 students; we are now looking to expand this intervention programme further. The post holder will encourage students to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all students in activities. In addition, they need to feel confident to challenge and motivate students to promote and reinforce self-esteem and self-discipline.
We have a well-developed assessment system for tracking progress in English. The post holder will work closely with the Literacy Intervention Lead, Literacy Coordinator, the English department and the SENCo with these interventions.
We have high expectations of what students can achieve with the right support. Students are encouraged at all stages of their education to be the very âbest that they can beâ and to realise their full potential. If you are motivated to support all students to achieve a good level of literacy in English and have ideas as to how we can accomplish this, then we would like to hear from you.
Shoreham Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children therefore all positions in the school will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS).
To comply with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006, all prospective employees will be required to supply evidence of eligibility to work in the UK.
Shoreham Academy is part of United Learning; a large and growing group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England. Schools within United Learning work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our intranet site, United Hub, is just one example of how we share resource and communicate across sites, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance. We reward our staff: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately the satisfaction of supporting schools in their quest to give every child the opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential.
