We’re looking for a reliable and motivated person to join our professional team as a Senior Support Worker (Communicator Guide) in Peterborough. This opportunity is to work on a casual basis within a community setting. Our casual/bank arrangements are very flexible as we have a wide range of shifts available. We are looking for people to join our team of adaptable and motivated individuals with great communication skills to help make a difference to the lives of the people we support.

Communicator Guides offer support to people who have developed sight and hearing impairments, often as they get older; you will support the individual to do the things they want to do - not to do things for them. You’ll be there to act as the eyes and ears of the individual – to make sure that communication is clear and that they are able to move around safely.

About the role

You will support a young deafblind gentleman in developing his independence skills within his home environment and local community. This will include assisting with completing college coursework and creating opportunities for socialising within his peer group, for example, attending youth clubs and sport activities.

You must be able to work flexible hours to suit the service requirements and have the ability to work on your own initiative.

A full UK driving licence and use of your own vehicle is an essential requirement for this role.

*For genuine occupational requirement we are looking to appoint a male only (exemption under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9).

About you

We would like to hear from you if you have experience of working with vulnerable people, and ideally have experience of working with people with a sensory impairment.

A willingness to develop your skills in all communication methods is an essential part of this role. You will need to be able to creatively solve problems that may arise using a person-centred approach and ideally have experience of using person-centred planning tools.

You must be enthusiastic, adaptable and friendly with a commitment to ensuring the individual you work with get the best out of their lives.

The ideal candidate will hold, or be willing to work towards, a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
