Role: Product Manager - Commercial Motor
Location: London

We are currently recruiting for a 'Product Manager - Commercial Motor' in the City of London for a Leading Insurer Client of ours.

The primary responsibilities of this role are:

·Creating and executing an effective strategy for the product(s)
·Using your extensive market and product knowledge to inform the selection of your chosen risk appetite and to act as inputs to the pricing of the product(s)
·Having accountability for the financial performance of the product(s).
·Leading and managing a team of Underwriters and Senior Underwriters
·Driving the development of trading activity through a wide range of new and existing relationships

The role is highly market visible, involving extensive broker contact when communicating our strategy, managing the financial performance of existing relationships and in seeking to broaden market penetration.

Success in the role requires extensive technical expertise in the product(s), detailed understanding of the market in which you operate, first class portfolio management skills and frequent collaboration with other business functions to ensure that we leverage capabilities from across the business in delivering first class propositions to our chosen market.

The key priorities for the holder of this role are:

·Working with the Underwriting Head to develop the underwriting strategy for our product(s) and having accountability for executing that underwriting strategy.
·The strategy will be such that it ensures you see continued growth and margin improvement, enhancing market position
·Working with the Underwriting Head to set the short and medium term financial plans for the product(s) and having accountability for the actions necessary to meet or exceed those financial plans
·Building and maintaining knowledge of the market in which you operate ensuring that you have extensive knowledge of the legal, economic, competitive and socio demographic factors that influence the market and the ability to be successful in that market.
Constantly updating your knowledge and staying in touch with current affairs to inform risk appetite and pricing decisions
·Creating, leading and managing a team of highly experienced and skilled underwriters.
·Working closely with broker partners at a senior management level to build and develop the portfolio in such a ways as to ensure that you meet or exceed the financial plans
·Setting and constantly monitoring our underwriting appetite for the product(s) to ensure that you take advantage of market opportunities and outperform peers through superior risk selection and proactive management of the business mix
·Working closely with all areas of the business to ensure that we deliver a clear and seamless set of propositions to the market. This extends to include our methods of trading and fulfilment of our products in a way to help us constantly seek ways in which we can enhance our trading models and methods, allowing them to remove frictional cost, improve their customer experience and allow our people to spend their time on value adding activity.

Skills & Experiences

This is a leadership role which carries strategic and financial accountability as well as being recognized as a market leading subject matter expert in our product(s). We therefore require our role holders to demonstrate influential leadership capabilities and to possess the following skills, attributes and knowledge:
·Possessing extensive technical knowledge of the product(s), including the features of the product, factors that drive product performance, market dynamics which influence how the product is delivered and the requirements of customers using the product(s)
·Sophisticated portfolio management skills with the ability to manage the financial performance of a range of product propositions in a complex and competitive market.
·Demonstrate gravitas and clarity of purpose which will give confidence to senior stakeholders, both internally and externally
·Detailed understanding of sophisticated pricing practices and methodologies with the ability and experience to help them constantly enhance our pricing capability, adding insight and innovation to how they build and utilise risk pricing
·Natural interpersonal skills which will allow you to build and maintain value adding relationships.
You must be able to articulate what a mutually beneficial relationship looks like and be comfortable having difficult conversations
·Extensive knowledge of the legal, regulatory and compliance provisions that apply to the UK motor insurance market
·Clear understanding of the principles relating to risk management: ensuring that you are able to identify, monitor and manage the risks that threaten the achievement of your objectives and the future success of the business.
