Engineering Manager - Material Handling Systems – Birmingham
£55,000 - £65,000 + Bonus and Excellent Benefits Package

RTRS is a bespoke agency focused on supporting the strategic goals of engineering business across the UK in the acquisition of mechanical, electrical and software engineering talent.

We are currently working with a market-leading business that designs, manufactures and installs full turn-key material handling systems and solutions for clients worldwide, and due to continued success, they are looking for a Technical/Engineering Manager to join the team.

The Role

As Engineering Manager, you will report directly into the MD and will be responsible for leading and mentoring a multi-disciplined team or mechanical and electrical engineers throughout the full project life-cycle from bid through to commissioning. Your time will be divided between hands-on mechanical design, project management, mentoring the team and investing time into product and process improvement across the business, while continually acting as a critical individual in the continued growth and development of the business.

Key Tasks:
  • Lead the creation of project designs, BOMs, specifications and component drawings.
  • Liaise with internal departments, customers and suppliers throughout project to ensure adherence to quality, cost, time and spec.
  • Leading the Mechanical and Electrical Design function while taking an active technical involvement in all projects.
  • Work continually to develop and improve products and processes across all areas of the business.
  • Manage the production of installation and maintenance manuals, while ensuring compliance throughout with relevant industry standards.
  • Research relevant advances in technology, competitor equipment and recommend as appropriate to the business, change to the product.
To be considered for the role you will have the following attributes:
  • Minimum of HNC in Mechanical, Mechatronic or Electro-mechanical discipline
  • Previous track-record in the management of technical teams throughout project design phase
  • Previous background in mechanical design and basic structural/hand calculations
  • Strong leadership qualities, with the willingness to continually challenge and drive engineering development across the business.
  • Full Clean UK driving licence
  • Flexibility, commitment and enthusiasm with the ability to work under pressure to achieve objectives within defined timescales.
