Job DescriptionOpenBet is looking for a talented Software Engineer to work on the next generation of online sports betting and gaming platforms. Our world-leading sportsbook products process over 70% of all UK & Gibraltar regulated bets, on a system that offers unparalleled levels of performance and scalability.

As a Software Engineer with the Promotions & Account Team, you’ll be working in a team that is developing a brand new product that will be used by our leading operator customers to design and develop promotions to engage their players and customers. The platform is a distributed system using core Java, Kafka and Cassandra as its main tech stack.


Development of new features and functionality for NPD products and services, including the production of unit tests as and where requiredWill be asked to participate in reviews for products of the projects they are assigned to.Ensuring code quality is maintained at a high level for products and services delivered by the team the Software Engineer is working withEnsuring that products and services adhere to agreed user stories provided by product owners and business analysts.Maintenance of relevant technical sections of the internal Knowledge BaseUnderstanding of solutions architecture and design, including KPI definitionAbility to input into planning sessions for sprint planning and sprint retrospectives.Support the Senior Software Engineer to ensure continuous quality improvement in the sprint team.Escalate issues in areas of material improvement, notably around performance, security and scalabilityUnderstand development team processes and where they should be aligned with technical processes prevalent in the wider companyDevelop a clear understanding of the overall system architecture and design components, in the context of meeting product requirementsKnowledge of Agile development processes and scrum roles and responsibilitiesContribute to scrum meetings and escalate issues as appropriate to the Senior Software EngineerQualificationsIf you’re the right Software Engineer for us you’ll be able to demonstrate:

Solid hands-on experience in developing applications using Java EE platforms, on UNIX / Linux (Java 7 or Java 8)Strong fundamental programming skills (data structures, algorithms)A good understanding of relational databases (SQL or NoSQL)Experience in developing web applications using at least one popular web framework (JSF, Drupal, GWT, Spring MVC etc.)An understanding of TDD and/or BDD principlesExperience in developing distributed systemsGeneral understanding of the use of Docker, Ansible, Maven, Jenkins, Sonar and Git (BitBucket)
It’d also be great to see these skills/experiences as well:
