This position is based within Instron’s Platform Engineering department which is located at our European headquarters in High Wycombe

Position Summary

The Platform Engineering team are responsible for the applications which support the operation of our testing systems across the Dynamic business unit. This role will focus on the development and maintenance of Instron's software applications and would suit an individual with a background or keen interest in engineering.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

·Carry out software support and development tasks efficiently and effectively as required by the team.

·Work with the business team, tech support and SQA (software quality assurance) to assess, investigate and fix software bugs.

·Contribute to application design, typically communicated via UML.

·Design and write unit tests.

·Design and implement some small software projects or modules, liaising with other members of the software team for advice and guidance.

·Liaise with other departments (Business Team, Service Department, etc.).

·Provide regular progress updates to mentor/manager.

Skills and Experience

·Excellent problem solving abilities.

·Good understanding of the software product life cycle.

·Programming experience in C#, C++, VB.NET or Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).

·Familiarity with Unified Modelling Language (UML), Object Orientated Programming (OOP) and .Net 4.6.

·Familiarity with C++ and LabVIEW would be beneficial but not essential.

·Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels both within & external to business.

·Uses own initiative and can work independently.

·Knowledge of Agile-SCRUM methodology would be beneficial.

Education and Qualifications

Minimum of an undergraduate degree in an Engineering discipline or related field
