Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for the 70,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. We bring together people affected by more than 60 rare and very rare progressive muscle-weakening and wasting conditions. We provide a range of services and opportunities to help people live as independently as possible. We campaign to improve the quality of life of the people across the UK who live with muscle-wasting conditions. Primary job purpose The Senior Press Officer (Campaigns and Policy) will be responsible for supporting the work of colleagues across the Campaigns, Care and Information team through delivering national, regional and trade media coverage. They will take ownership of the execution of issue-led media campaigns, raising awareness of disability issues and promoting Muscular Dystrophy UK’s lobbying and influencing work. Main tasks and responsibilities Work with the Campaigns, Care and Information teams, with the support of the PR Manager, to secure consistent national and regional media coverage for the charity’s campaigns and policy work. Launch and deliver press for the national and regional campaigns produced by the Campaigns and Outreach teams, including parliamentary activity in all four UK nations, on health and care issues affecting our supporters. Develop strong contacts with a wide array of relevant national, regional and trade journalists to ensure the organisation’s messages can be delivered to as many audiences as possible. Monitor the media agenda daily, keeping senior team informed of key issues and stories relevant to the charities work. Where relevant, work with colleagues to respond swiftly with comments. Maintain and develop the organisation’s key messaging from the Campaigns, Care and Information teams, ensuring up-to-date facts and positions are available for sharing with journalists and external audiences.
