Senior Controls Development Engineer
Summary:The company is a privately owned, medium sized company, specialising in development and manufacture of exhaust and aftertreatment systems for internal combustion engines. With R&D being central to its success, it has a history of market-leading technology development and is sought out by OEMs and retrofit customers for its specialist expertise. It is currently embarking on a strategy to grow and diversify its business further and is seeking to recruit high calibre engineers with emissions and low-carbon expertise to support this growth. The Senior Controls Engineer is a senior engineering role leading the technical development of control systems for emissions control and environmental product development projects.
Role & Responsibilities:•Support the technical development of new controls hardware and software for emissions and low-carbon products from concept evaluation through to production, utilising internal and external test, development and CAE resource•Support the Advanced Technology Manager to identify opportunities for strategic control product developments•In conjunction with other departments, support the evaluation and procurement of control system hardware•Setting up and operation of HIL rigs•Specification of sensors, actuators and electrical connectivity•Specification of ECUs, operating systems and I/O interfaces•Development of control system software in Matlab environment•Interact with calibration and test engineering colleagues•Manage outsourced controls development and validation testing
Person Specification:Education and Qualifications:•A good degree in Control Engineering, Electrical/Electronics, Mechanical or Automotive engineering or an appropriate scientific discipline

Previous Experience:•Development of embedded control system software•Development of control system hardware•Broad understanding of automotive control systems and powertrain•Extensive experience of the development and application of automotive controls/electronics system technology•Use of Matlab, DSPACE, ETAS toolsets•System modelling and machine-learning•Exposure to or direct experience of any or all of the following engineering disciplines: CAE; energy systems; thermo and fluid dynamics, exhaust aftertreatment
