Head of IT

Our client is a well-known and respected business in their area, within professional services. They currently have expansive plans, having moved to offices and are looking to bring in a Head of IT to supplement the work of the Director of IT. They have been a market leader and operate nationally within a B2B and B2C environment.

The Head of IT will be a highly experienced senior IT Professional, who understands, and is passionate about IT and Technology, but also has a vision to use their experience to simplify, and help the end user. The incumbent will see the bigger picture and will be strategic in their approach, helping to drive efficiencies and technology development but with an eye and understanding for the commercial impact and usability of systems.

Responsibilities will span the full IT landscape, including business systems, information management, support and service delivery, projects, architecture and infrastructure. The incumbent will also be expected to manage responsibilities around IT and Information Security and help drive change transformation by leveraging investments in people, process and technology.

The Head of IT and Business Systems must be happy to get hands dirty and must also have a business acumen approach, excellent communication skills are important for this role, as is being able to successfully manage the team to deliver the very best service and support levels internally.

This will be an opportunity to lead a range of IT professionals, in a forward thinking environment and help to implement the IT strategy set by the IT Director. This role is a developing one, and whilst you will have the day to day operations remit, you will also be progressing towards a succession for the current IT Director. The company is keen that the person who is successful, has aspirations to step into this role as it will be the natural succession plan that will help with consistent delivery of IT service and strategy implementation.


Extensive IT Management experience, across multiple IT disciplines and teams.
Extensive Business Systems and Information Management experience.
Strong knowledge of Cyber and IT Security and familiarity of the ISO27001 standard.
Good knowledge and experience of IT strategic planning and implementation.
Good knowledge and experience of implementing and managing hybrid IT infrastructure environments.
Highly experienced in managing complex IT Infrastructure environments and 3rd party vendors.
Highly experienced in managing Support/Service Desk and the implementation of ITIL standards.
Must have a good knowledge of IT development, and associated methodologies.
Must have a good knowledge of Project Management principles and governance.
Understands what good IT Governance looks like and is experienced in the implementation of associated standards and best practices.
Worked previously in a senior IT position that covering infrastructure, Business Systems and Information Management, applications, Service Delivery, Project Delivery and Information Security.
Evidence of strong inclusive team working approach and understanding of and ability to work with non-IT staff to translate organisation and customer needs into successful service delivery.
Significant knowledge and experience of enterprise IT.
Very strong influencing skills and ability to communicate complex technologies and processes in a clear and coherent way.
Ability to prioritise resources to ensure successful completion of projects to budget and timescale.
Ability to take a complex technical need or solution and explain it to a non-technical audience so that the impact on the business is easily understood.
Ability to work under pressure and demonstrate resilience to ensure the correct solution is selected with a full understanding of the costs, timescales and risk involved.
Extensive knowledge of ITIL, with demonstrable experience in the implementation of the standard.
Knowledge of ERP solutions, and the support of them.
Extensive knowledge of Office 365, in particular Share Point (Groups, Teams).
Ability to develop and maintain management information consistent with the Firms needs and priorities, working across divisions and teams.

This is a key role for the client, and they will be looking to appoint a credible candidate with experience of managing teams with a minimum of 10 IT professionals.
