Company Description Kite Power Systems (KPS) is a UK based developer of disruptive, low-cost, wind energy technology whose main shareholders are E.ON, Schlumberger, Shell Technology Ventures and Scottish Enterprise. The KPS power system has two kites that are flown as high as 1,500 feet (450 m); their tether is attached to a winch system that generates electricity as it spools out. By achieving flight speeds of up to 100 mph (45 m/s) in 20mph (9m/s) winds, the kite’s tether tension causes the line to rapidly spool out from a drum, which drives a generator producing electricity. The company is based in Glasgow with test facilities in the south-west of Scotland. Location Glasgow with occasional travel to the test site in south-west Scotland, as well as other travel the business requires. Salary A competitive basic salary will be offered, depending on experience. Job Description Kite Power Systems are recruiting an Electrical Engineer to work within the KPS Engineering team. KPS. The successful candidate will be responsible for the electrical design and installation of both the ground based systems and airborne kite. This role would suit someone with more than 8 years’ experience and who has held sign-off responsibilities in the past. This is a rare opportunity to work on a distinctive R&D project developing a significant new wind energy technology. Role and Responsibilities Providing the primary electrical design resource and sign-off within the KPS Engineering team Selection of equipment and sensors from specifications and incorporation into design Producing and maintaining detailed electrical drawings Electrical fault finding Producing detailed engineering reports Assisting in hardware/software interfaces Working closely with a multi-disciplinary team Liaising with manufacturers & subcontractors Maintaining parts lists, design records, Bills of Materials etc Required Skills HND/Degree in Electrical Engineering Minimum 8 years’ experience working in a relevant field Has held electrical sign-off responsibilities in a previous role Thorough knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems Experience designing low voltage DC systems Extensive practical experience working on prototypes Good knowledge of electrical loads analysis Experience working in AutoCAD or similar package to produce and maintain electrical drawings Excellent English communication skills – verbal and written Ability to quickly integrate into a multidisciplinary team Experience liaising with supply chain Desired Skills Experience designing industrial electrical systems Electrical control of hydraulics Design and commissioning of avionics or automotive systems Low voltage DC motors Experience of MV electrical systems Battery selection In depth knowledge of IEC 61400 Electrical System (or similar) design requirements Experience writing code for PLCs and / or building abstractions between high level software programmes and the hardware they run on Full driving licence Benefits 25 days annual leave per year, plus bank holidays Pensions scheme with up to 10% employer contribution Share Option Scheme
