UX/UI Designer x2 (1 Lead role)

This is a fantastic opportunity for and experienced and professional UX/UI Designer with the ability and passion to pick up new technologies, innovate technology and coach / mentor junior engineers.

As the lead UX/UI Designer, You will work within the digital function of the Business Change team, supporting cross-functional teams to deliver our digital services in line with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards. Working closely with IT and the respective functional areas, the business change team delivers the change portfolio across the business.

Key Experience

  • Demonstrable knowledge, experience in and passion for web user-centred design practices
  • Proven experience of gathering user requirements for web based services and translating these into interaction designs
  • Proven experience of working on a GOV.UK service and working with GDS service design patterns and standards
  • Clear experience of managing, executing and analysing usability test sessions
  • Proven experience of working in an Agile development environment with User Experience teams and developers to create new digital products and services
  • Experience of audience modelling and developing design personas
  • A clear track-record of delivering high-volumes of work, to strict deadlines with the ability to manage workload independently
  • Proven line management experience or experience of being a lead/senior member within a team
  • Skills:

    ·Ability to ensure the service offering considers customer needs and a broad range of available methods to meet this, including new technology where relevant

    ·Excellent written skills and the ability to capture, utilise and share customer insight and views from a diverse range of stakeholders

    ·Experience in manipulating and providing reasonable conclusions from a wide range of incomplete and complex evidence and data with the ability to act or decide even when details are not clear

    ·Strong communication skills with the ability to confidently engage with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels to generate commitment to goals and build trust

    ·Self-awareness with a high level of professionalism

    ·Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to deliver business outcomes that achieve a better result for users

    ·Able to challenge and seek constructive outcomes in discussions and compromise when it is beneficial to progress

    Role Responsibilities

    ?Communicating research findings to the wider team to ensure buy in and understanding of user needs throughout

    ?Responsible for the prioritisation and workload management of the overall UX team

    ?Line management responsibility for the UX team, including regular 1:1 catch up meetings and monthly/quarterly performance reviews

    ?Planning, designing and conducting in-house usability testing sessions to support the design and development of our digital services

    ?Leading the usability testing process from developing user recruitment briefs through to test, analysis and report writing

    ?Conducting in-house research (including user requirements gathering and early stage concept and prototype testing, guerrilla research, and other approaches to ensuring the user need is fully understood in the service design)

    ?Working with Service Managers to devise appropriate research strategies to generate focused insights and to convert concepts into high quality stimulus material

    ?Working closely with developers to turn test data into actionable user stories

    ?Designing, scripting and analysing ad-hoc quantitative surveys

    ?Managing ad-hoc qualitative/quantitative research projects such as proposition development, visual identity and customer experience mapping

    ?Applying knowledge in human factors, ethnography, and the user-centred design process to product and service design in an iterative development environment

    ?Presenting findings and related design/business recommendations and customer insights to senior decision makers

    ?Managing day-to-day operations with a range of usability and market research agencies with accountability for schedules, value for money and deliverables

    ?Promoting user-centred design principles and best practice within Innovate UK

    Maintain expertise with Government Digital Service design patterns and standards and keep regular contact with key stakeholders in government to build good working relationships

    Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in HCI/Usability/Cognitive Psychology/Market Research or related field.
