  • Salary to £65k + 29 days holiday, share options plan, pension, life assurance etc
Overview

Are you a QA with an interest (or experience) in development? Do you want to work with cutting edge open source JavaScript technologies?

EG’s market leading web products deliver deep insight to the top commercial property professionals across the UK. We are looking for an innovative QA engineer to work with our development teams on the creation of test automation and performance frameworks using JavaScript technologies such as Protractor and Node JS for our flagship digital brand based in High Holborn.

The successful candidate will demonstrate real enthusiasm in the field of QA using JavaScript solutions and bring energy and aptitude to a proactive technology team built on the ethos of continuous improvement.

This is as much about your contribution to a happy, collaborative environment, as it is technical excellence. Once in post you’ll get to work with some of the best technologists around.

What you’ll do:

·Work with exciting new tech. Currently we use AngularJS, Node JS, Protractor and Mongo to create products based on event driven architecture deployed on Amazon Services.

·Work closely (including pairing) with our talented developers to ensure bugs are caught automatically, quickly and as near to source as possible as part of the development and build process.

·Work in small, co-located agile teams releasing high quality software often.

·Pair with our talented DevOps team members in the provision of automated test environments and ease escalation of releases to production.

·Follow QA, agile and continuous delivery best practice within the team, baking quality into all processes.

·Take active part in agile ceremonies, in particular planning and retrospectives, working with analysts and developers to ensure shared understanding of acceptance criteria.

·Keep learning.

·Research and champion tools and process improvement for consideration by the team; we rarely sit still for long.

·Work in a small business, within a big business; start-up agility, with big business backing and resources.

What you’ll bring

·Interest in and knowledge of QA best practice, methodologies and tools.

·Interest and aptitude in JavaScript and open source technologies.

·Experience of working with test automation frameworks.

·Experience of working in agile environments.

·Infectious enthusiasm

What we don’t want

·“Cookie cutter” manual testers who’ve performed some automated front end testing using Java and Selenium but no other coding experience.

·Applicants who aren’t interested in continuous learning and personal development

Skills & Requirements:

There is of course a base-line of skills that we need and you should be able to demonstrate solid skills in the following:

Essential:

·Proven automation test experience on commercial customer facing web applications (preferably with JavaScript frameworks such as Protractor)

·Thorough understanding of QA principles and methodologies including direction of travel for tools and processes – industry trends.

·Excellent general technical awareness and aptitude (knowledge of relevant technologies / test tools / languages / databases) and the ability to solve challenges in a number of different technologies.

·Linux

·Familiarity with Git/Stash

·Coding experience in JavaScript.

·Experience testing APIs.

·Experience of integrating automated tests with continuous integration pipelines – one-click deployments.

·Good interpersonal and stakeholder skills.

·Strong research and problem solving skills.

Desirable:

·Testing sites / products built using MEAN Stack – Angular, Node.js, MongoDB.

·Browser Stack.

·Amazon Web Services.

·Exposure to Team City.

·Experience of performance testing (including tools such as JMeter / Load UI / Soap UI etc).

·Experience of preparing test environments and data for execution of performance, regression and usability testing.

·Experience testing event driven architecture and/or service oriented architecture

It’s worth noting that whilst EG is a hugely successful brand in its own right, it’s also part of Reed Business Information and the FTSE100 RELX Group, powerhouses in the global digital world and hugely respected tech-driven businesses. This means that we’re able to offer the best-of-both-words, a close-knit, collegial, flexible and dynamic team but with the stability, investment, benefits and career opportunities that go with being part of a growing global organisation.

What’s it like to work here?

Outstanding - you’ve probably already got a feel for what we do and the technology we’re involved with but what’s really stands us out from the crowd is our culture. We’re an agile, dynamic and forward thinking organisation who understands the importance of looking after our staff. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality products, providing our employees with interesting challenges for their personal and career development whilst also striking the right balance between work and family life.

And what about your career?

Career development is a big thing for us and we take our PDP (personal development plan) process very seriously; we want you to learn and progress quickly in the direction you want to go and we will provide you with the training and support to achieve that at the right pace. The great thing about us career-wise is that we’re a company made up of leading online businesses so you can develop in three dimensions, vertically through the business, across different brands, and across different functions (if you fancy a change). We’re also an increasingly international business and are often able to offer overseas opportunities either as secondments or on a permanent basis.

RBI General Benefits Package:

·Pension Scheme

·29 Days Holiday

·Paid Charity Days – 2 days per year

·Life Insurance (4x salary)

·Save As You Earn Share Scheme (SAYE)
