Job Description and Skills

Our esteemed client require an enthusiastic and capable Engineering Manager to lead all engineering aspects within the growing sector of Support and Service Solutions business portfolio. The international IOS area includes a diverse range of products including Artillery Pointing Systems, Test Systems, Radar, EW and Avionics Support Contracts. The HoEP will be responsible for ensuring the engineering approach on our programmes, both current and future, is consistent with our high standards and provides what our customers need. Additionally the HoEP will have responsibility for ensuring that our programmes have the resources that they need and meet their cost and schedule commitments. The HoEP will be a direct report to the VP Engineering S3 (UK).

Key Responsibility Areas

Delivery to time, cost and quality of all programmes within the International IOS business area. Provide Engineering Leadership to the Integrated Product Teams (IPT) within the business area, working mainly across our Edinburgh and Luton sites, with worldwide travel from time to time as a key component of this role, managing a team of around 100 engineers via 3 Project Engineering Manager direct reports.
Responsible for the technical goodness of the work underpinning product quality and reliability. Responsible for the integrity of the design and compliance with internal and external standards and legislation. To act as lead technical point of contact with opposite numbers in our customer community. Responsible for resource planning and management, interfacing with the site based resource managers to ensure that projects have the resources they need (quantity and capability). To co-ordinate the engineering input into the IPT plans, ensuring that the scope of work is defined, scheduled and tracked, that risks are identified, dependencies are recognised, and mitigation plans are put in place for any risk or dependency activity. To ensure the continuous development of staff, including strategic training and development, to provide fulfilling careers to our engineers and provide the people the business needs. To facilitate and vet all associated bid estimates within the group to meet associated product needs. To assist in the creation of an engineering improvement strategy and to deliver process improvements to the business. Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (or equivalent), with experience of working on projects with a significant support element. Has an understanding that the boundaries are always moving and with a desire to keep learning and contribute to pushing the boundaries. A constructive innovator. Proven leadership skills with experience of uniting and motivating a team. An ability to communicate clearly, to negotiate and listen. Candidates must have experience of working at a senior engineering management level, with good knowledge of the application of the principles of Engineering LifeCycle Management. Experience of working with international partners and customers in a military context would be beneficial.

Intrinsic Factors

This role will be based at our office in Edinburgh. In addition the candidate will be required to conduct regular travel within the UK with some oversees travel required
