Bond Compliance Coordinator
We are looking for an energetic, confident and intelligent compliance coordinator to join our growing legal and compliance team (which sounds like the ugly step-sister of a rock ’n’ roll business but which really isn’t). We’re looking for team-players with hustle who want things done yesterday. The ideal candidate will have some legal training, perhaps a law degree or GDL, or be part CIMA/ACCA qualified, and will have experience of working in a fast-paced commercial enviroment. We have a track record of training young legal professionals to Jedi level, and we recognise that The Right Stuff can be just as important as the CV. The work of the team is important and taken seriously – your goal will be to ensure that our ever-expanding operations are protected against regulatory lapse – but we’re looking for someone with sharp judgment. The compliance team exists to facilitate sustainable growth, not hamstring our operations with red tape. You’ll report to our Excise Compliance Manager, but you’ll also work very closely with our General Counsel, who sits on the board, and shadow the production and stock management chaps in the Edinburgh facility. The successful candidate will have day-to-day responsibility for monitoring duty-suspended operations and movements in, through and from our bonded warehouse, and for routine liaison with HMRC in connection with those operations and movements. If the management team has a question about whether any stock is duty paid, you’ll have the answer, lickety-split. If HMRC visit the warehouse you’ll be there, front and centre, demonstrating that the business has rock-solid control over the split between duty-suspended and duty-paid stock. We’re after someone: with high intelligence and a fast, enquiring mind; with excellent communication and interpersonal skills; not afraid of getting their hands dirty when it’s all hands to the pump; capable of working independently, as part of a team, whilst upside-down…; with a forensic attention to detail and a pathological love of pedantry (if you spotted the typo without trying, you’re halfway there); and who is a great cultural fit for our growing, dynamic, diverse team.
