RESIDENT SENIOR MATRON - ABINGDONSalary £20,000 plus self-contained flatOur client is a family-run preparatory boarding school for 220 boys surrounded by extensive grounds in the heart of rural Oxfordshire. Coupling a fine tradition with innovation, the school provides a happy, secure and stimulating environment, where the boys learn very quickly how to live alongside each other, form firm friendships, and develop their talents and social skills for life. A vacancy has arisen for a dedicated and experienced Resident Senior Matron to oversee and contribute to the care of boarders with particular responsibility for overseeing the junior matrons in their daily duties and ensuring the continuing high standards of care of the boys. Pastoral Care: ●To prioritise the safeguarding, welfare, health and safety of boys and to be familiar with statutory safeguarding and child protection needs and requirements as well as school policies. ●To report any concerns to the Head Matron or DSL or Deputy DSL.●To encourage appropriate standards of behaviour and consideration for others by the boys.●To use the school sanctions system for good or bad marks (on the intranet).●To be available, when on duty, during the night if needed by boarders.Domestic:●To ensure the boys clothes and personal belongings are used appropriately and stored securely and tidily and to (in conjunction with senior matrons) ensure all belongings are clearly named and kept in good repair.●To help maintain standards of standards and tidiness, cleanliness and good housekeeping and to report to Head Matron any areas in need of repair in boarding area.●In conjunction with the Head Matron to help promote a high standard of tidiness and cleanliness among boarders and ensure they are wearing the correct uniform and are appropriately dressed at all times. ●To help with the beginning and end of term packing and unpacking.●To oversee and check daily the junior matrons are completing tasks satisfactorily (checking wet beds, opening windows; clean laundry is put away correctly and clothes are rotated etc.)●Completion of accident and medical forms as required.Medical:●To liaise with the school nurses and Head Matron to ensure the boys' medical requirements are met and to help run surgeries and administer first aid in the absence of a school nurse or as necessary.●When on duty to be First Aider and to have appropriate qualifications and training.●To accompany boys to medical appointments as required by the school nurses and Head Matron.●To look after pupils in sick bay during the night, as necessary and in the absence of the school nurse.●To implement good personal hygiene routine for the boys as appropriate, including supervision of hair washing, nail cutting and nit checks.Administration:●To take accurate messages by phone and email and to contact and liaise with parents when necessary.●To help with the typing and printing of labels and the labelling of changing room pegs and dorm drawers and cupboards.●To help maintain noticeboards in the boarding area and dorms, ensuring notices are kept up to date.●To take an active role in the fire evacuation procedures.●To take part in the annual staff appraisal system.●To ensure continuity of care by handing over essential information (either verbally or written, as necessary) before going off duty.●To be responsible (in conjunction with the school nurse) for the off-games register when the Head Matron is off duty. Other:●To help wake up boarders and ensure they are clean and well-presented before breakfast and to supervise the boys tidying dorms and making their beds before they go downstairs.●To eat breakfast with the boys when on duty and to encourage good eating habits.●To help supervise changing rooms for games and match sessions.●To be available for work one week before the start of term and three days after the end of term.●Any other tasks which the Headmaster and Headmaster's wife may reasonably assign.
