We have a fantastic opportunity for a Database Administrator to join our IT team.

The purpose of this role is to be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of a database. They will also be involved in the planning and development of the database, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users

The Role

·Assisting in database design

·Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast responses to front-end users

·Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans;

·Ensuring that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly;

·Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security;

·Creating complex query definitions that allow data to be extracted

·Evaluates releases of Oracle and its tools, and third party products to ensure that the site is running the products that are most appropriate.

·Familiarity with the main data manipulation languages and the principles of database design;

·Flexibility and adaptability;

·Good organisational skills;

·The skill to work to tight deadlines under pressure;

·The ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and customers

Technical Skills

·The DBA must take an active role in the analysis and design of new database systems. Therefore, knowledge of data flow diagrams, data dictionary techniques, CASE tools, Entity -relation modelling and design techniques will be required.

·A knowledge of database normalization theory, STAR schema design, and data modelling techniques is required

·Understanding of disk hardware architecture, RAID implementation, cache controllers, and disk load balancing are beneficial.

·An understanding of relational database security including role-based security is highly desirable

·Backup and Recovery skills - Many backup and recovery methods involve 3rd party software (Veritas, Legato, ADSM), and the candidate should have real-world experience implementing backup and recovery methods.

·Ensuring compliance with database vendor license agreement

·Contacting database vendor for technical support

·Oracle certifications across core technologies.
