Buyer (with mechanical engineering experience)
We are looking to recruit a buyer, with mechanical engineering experience and who would like to develop their Purchasing skills with a progressive Purchasing team and European based manufacturing company who are based in Northumberland.
The role is to support the Business Plan by supplying the company’s needs with a secure and timely supply of purchased inputs of the specified quality and at the lowest acquisition cost. To organise the day to day activities of the Purchasing department and Purchasing Administrator. To monitor and manage the supplier base for all Mechanical and Electrical materials, Hire equipment and Support services. To provide a purchasing service to meet plant demands.
Duties and responsibilities·To implement the Purchasing Policy in all aspects when carrying out all Purchasing activities for the effective sourcing and supply of mechanical and electrical engineering materials, hire services and other support services.·To be able to run and understand every aspect of the department. ·To attend any training courses and meetings as required.·To manage the flow of daily activities in order to deliver the best quality Purchasing service for the Company.·To manage and develop the supply base for the company through negotiation, continuous improvement initiatives, supplier visits, performance monitoring and auditing.·To utilise the SAP system to reduce purchasing transactional costs·To implement and maintain the Company Safety Systems as detailed in the Health and Safety Manual.·To implement and maintain the Company Quality Systems as detailed in the Quality Manual.·To carry out any special projects as required by the Purchasing Manager. ·To deputise for the Purchasing Manager as necessary.
Required Qualifications·Study toward a Business Administration qualification in Further Education (e.g. HNC, DMS, MBA), or similar in-house company training schemes·Membership or studying for the CIPS desirable·Full Driving Licence
Necessary skills & competencies·Relevant purchasing related work experience, with knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering and service supply base·Mechanical and Electrical engineering technical knowledge essential for sourcing materials·Good written and verbal skills·Attention to detail and accuracy are important·Intermediate standard of IT skills and competent use of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook)·Experience of SAP system desirable·Must be well organised, efficient and a good communicator at all levels both internally and externally·Proactive approach to problem solving and supplier management
Starting salary would be £26k, with a 10% rise after probation of 6 months
