- Degree level (or equivalent) in Chemistry; Biological Sciences or related discipline
- Strong relevant scientific knowledge
- A good working knowledge of Mass Spectrometry, method development and validation as well as associated sample preparation techniques
- Objective and logical analytical and reasoning skills
- The ability to work as part of a team and take responsibility for own work
- Flexible and able to work with changing priorities
- Working to a consistently high standard and meeting deadlines
- Have worked or have knowledge of a GLP environment

This job contributes to organizational success by - -

- Reviewing scientific literature and attending conferences (as required) and thereby maintaining an up to date knowledge of technical, scientific and regulatory developments related to mass spectrometry.
- Providing advice and understanding on new and/or specialised techniques and how they can be implemented within the business
- Assisting in the evaluation/validation/commissioning of potential new technologies.
- Supervision and conduct of studies according to study plans/analytical plans and SOP's whilst maintaining GLP and HSE compliance throughout all areas of responsibility.
- Troubleshooting specific problems that are within the expertise of the jobholder. For example method development and solving problems with analytical methods instrument hardware and software.
- Interpreting data and assisting in the preparation of reports/Sponsor updates to high scientific standards and within agreed timeframes.
- Refining and further developing existing analytical methods to ensure that they are routinely conducted in the most efficient manner possible.
- Providing training and technical advice to other members of the department as required.
- Demonstrating a high level of knowledge in the use and support of on-line data capture systems and office computers.
- Assisting in the review and preparation of SOPs.
- Helping to ensure that safe working practices are adopted in all laboratory areas in which other staff work.
- On occasion, acting as Study Director or Principal Investigator for specific studies according to business need.
- Effectively communicating with technical and scientific staff to provide support to other Study Directors in the conduct of their studies.
- As requested, assisting other senior staff in the smooth running of the department, including liaison with customers.
- Assisting study management in responding to queries from internal and external customers, and provide regular updates on the progress of assigned work.
- Promoting Process Improvement in order to reduce costs and/or improving efficiency, productivity and scientific standards.
- Assisting in the management of the performance and training of junior team members, helping to develop individuals to their full potential and encouraging continued professional development.
- Developing and maintaining effective communication and working relationships with peers, management, inter- and intra-departmental project groups and other customers including QA.
