Senior Industrial Design Engineer
We have two separate companies in and outside Cambridge looking for Senior Industrial Design Engineers. Both jobs are remarkably similar although the end application areas are subtly different. Each will involve working on numerous design projects simultaneously, within multi-disciplinary teams to ensure new product designs are the absolute cutting edge of form and function. As a Senior Industrial Engineer, you will be constantly innovating, providing value-adding design solutions for demanding clients, creating new products and markets, making the most of technology. You will also have the opportunity to formulate business strategy and maximise your own personal impact. You must be eager to develop your skill set and be prepared to get involved in a broad range of activities covering the whole product development cycle from selling ideas through to detailed design and implementation.
Generate background research material, insights and concepts for sales presentations and assignment work.
Participate in and facilitate creative ideation sessions and workshops to generate innovative solutions to challenging design problems to enhance aesthetics, ergonomics, reliability and manufacturability.
Help shape and visualise new technology and product opportunities
Working across multi-functional teams you will design beautiful products that are safe, functional and easy to use, developing ideas and concepts through sketch-work, sketch-models, 3D CAD, rapid prototyping and testing.
Generate presentation material including storyboards, concept sketches, CAD renderings and (ideally) animations.
You will help bolster understanding & offering in branded design
Take an active role in developing new business and building client relationships
An excellent degree in Industrial Design/Product Design or a related discipline.
A high level of practical design experience with significant and proven technical skills
Excellent knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes from one off designs to high volume manufacture is required.
Track record of exciting products brought to the market and be able to demonstrate your visual flair and communication skills.
Significant experience in Photoshop/Illustrator and a 3D rendering/animation package is required. Experience with 3D CAD, preferably Creo / Pro Engineer and Solid Works would be preferred.
Familiarity with user-centred design methodologies and exposure to Human Factors research techniques
