About the role:

As Technical Lead Engineer you will be the lead designer on projects for new product development or special product development projects, in collaboration with the laboratory and industrialisation teams in the UK and all their other sites.

Responsibilities:

- Working with all other Engineering teams to resolve product issues and all other teams to ensure effective problem solving - with a focus on meeting customer needs profitably
- Accountable for Determining plans and mechanisms to deliver against your own objectives including ongoing problem solving
- Accountable for the Design and development of allocated switchgear projects
- Application of DFM to all product development
- Prepare and schedule internal and external testing, supervise as appropriate, working with the Laboratories team
- Accountable for the Maintenance of all test results and acting upon them
- Production of design documentation and maintenance of project files
- Accountable for correct finished product Bill of Materials (BOM) using Engineering systems to capture as appropriate
- Proactive in continuous improvement of the product / cost ratio and in the utilisation of new processes and technologies which enhance the safety and economics of the finished product
- Accountable for development opportunities and experiment with new approaches and practices to stay current in a New Product Design Environment
- Guarantee the delivery of the business strategy, by ensuring you manage delivery of your own objectives and prepare for your regular performance management meetings
- Strive to improve the overall financial and key performance indicators of the business

About you:

- Degree or equivalent in mechanical or electrical engineering
- Sound knowledge in medium voltage switchgear or a related subject
- Experienced in switchgear design or a related discipline
- Understanding of relevant International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards
- Mechanical engineering qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of strength of materials
- Driven to apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) to all product development
- Expert 3D CAD skills, preferably NX and TeamCenter PLM or Equivalent CAD / PLM system
- Significant experience of working in a multi-national, matrix organisation
- Strong communications and presentation skills, creative with a keen commercial awareness
