Central employment are currently looking for Intermediate Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer to work for a multi-disciplined consultancy involved in all areas of the building services industry with a specific focus on the pharmaceutical sector. This position is to provide mechanical design and project management services on a wide range of projects for a large multi-national pharmaceutical company in our Cramlington, Northumberland office. The role involves supporting projects from initial feasibility through design, construction, commissioning and validation with direct interaction with the end client.

The company is also involved in a diverse range of other sectors of the building services industry including commercial, sporting venues, heritage and residential projects. The candidate will also have the opportunity to be involved in providing consultancy design on these types of projects.

Key elements of the role include:

  • Receiving and understanding the requirements of the design task
  • Understanding the brief and the client's requirementsUndertaking design calculationsDeveloping design proposals at sketch, detail and production stagePreparing designs, specifications, schedules and tender documentationProduce budget estimates
·Developing design proposals at sketch, detail design and production stages

·Preparing drawings in conjunction with our CAD team

    Preparing reports and undertaking site surveys Project manage site issues on siteMonitoring and reporting on project progress
·Liaison with clients, other members of the design team, suppliers and contractors as necessary

    Assisting in the financial and technical success of the project Attend meetingsComplying with QA and other proceduresProactively support the company Health and Safety ethos with specific emphasis on ‘Target Zero’, ‘Safe by Choice’ and high risk work activitiesAssisting other departments and areas where the needs of the business require.
Secondary duties, from time to time, will involve development work on systems and procedures to assist in the efficient design of future projects.

Minimum requirements are as follows:

A Degree relevant to Mechanical Engineering or Building ServicesKnowledge in the use of AutoCADKnowledge in the use of Hevacomp and Amtech suite of calculationsComputer literate and experience of computer aided design calculation proceduresKnowledge of spreadsheetsGood people management skills with a developing commercial edgeDemonstrably confident and good interpersonal skillsGood command of written and spoken workAmbitious for both self and for companyThe candidate should preferably have some experience of working in a process / pharmaceutical environment but this is not essential.
