Underwriting Manager

to £60,000 + benefits package

About The Role:
Act as an underwriting manager in the best interests if the company to achieve objectives by managing the technical performance of the Division and by delivering an efficient case underwriting service to brokers. Primary focus is to underwrite, manage, and sell products offered by binding and brokerage carriers with emphasis on writing new business to meet business goals.

Key Duties:
·Manage the divisional account to ensure the company objectives are met
·Meet and exceed financial targets
·Collaborate with the management team to develop the Divisional plan and subsequently implement the underwriting elements to achieve financial income and loss ratio objectives, agreed technical standards and customer service standards
·Liaise with Insurers
·Enhance the company's standing and presence locally by establishing and maintaining strong personal relationships with key directors and staff at the region's most important brokers, and through contacts with the main influencers in the local insurance market
·Manage and control the flow of work to ensure that service standards are achieved
·Manage, motivate and develop the underwriting staff under the job holder's control and oversee the development of the underwriters' technical skills by delivering technical training and guidance

Key Technical Knowledge
·Understanding of specialist information needed to underwrite complex risks (e.g. surveyor or engineer reports)
·Knowledge of how underwriting tools and expert advice are used to inform the decision making process
·Robust knowledge of general insurance and underlying legal principles and practices
·Understand the principals and practice of insurance, reinsurance arrangements and contracts
·Robust knowledge of underwriting principles and rating methods
·Underwriting principles, Principles of reinsurance, Management systems, Underwriting manuals and technical library, Market wordings and specific role knowledge e.g. Terrorism rules and practices

Key Experience
·Strong commercial risks underwriting within a management remit
·Proven track record for planning and prioritising business goals meeting financial management objectives
·Excellent communication and collaboration skills meeting common goals with colleagues across matrix environments
·Confidently manages and sustains a key relationship network
·Leverages market knowledge with team to further opportunities and achieve business goals
·Knowledge of successfully embedding processes/structures to manage standards of excellence required by compliance
