About Riverford

We’re mad about organic veg. It’s at the core of everything we do. We love to grow it, pack it into boxes and deliver it to customers’ doorsteps around the UK. This takes a lot of brilliant people, with a range of skills and knowledge.

Riverford began in 1986, with a few acres of veg, a wheelbarrow and a beaten up 2CV for deliveries. We’ve grown into a successful e-commerce business, with four farms, three packhouses, a fleet of vans and drivers, a wholesalers, butchery, organic restaurant and pub. We employ people across many areas including IT, Logistics, Sales, HR, Finance and Marketing (and more besides).

Our culture and values set us apart from other businesses. Riverford is a friendly, informal place to work, with a passionate, entrepreneurial spirit. We’re committed to providing a fair deal for growers, customers and staff.

What you’ll be doing

Wholesale at Riverford is a small but growing part of our business. We have an established customer base in the South-West but we are looking for a Head of Wholesale to drive growth and fulfil our ambition of increasing turnover from £3m to £5m in the next 5 years.

Whether you are working with production to improve quality or delivering a proposal to the board, your ability to build relationships around the business and with our customers will be key to your success.

We are less concerned about specifics and decades of experience than we are about cultural fit, ambition, and general capability. Perhaps you are a business graduate who has some commercial experience but is looking for a company to support your development and give you greater autonomy. Maybe you are qualified by experience and can demonstrate that you already have some commercial success but are ready to take on a bigger and more rewarding challenge. Either way, you will be excited by the opportunity to grow a business and will be able to demonstrate the drive and knowledge to do so.

- Manage debt and payment terms with customers
- Develop strong relationships with all relevant company departments to maximise sales and goodwill
- Full P&L responsibility for both wholesale operations
- HSE responsibility for your team

Skills & experience

- Ideally from a produce/food background
- A proven track-record of sales development
- Working knowledge of a commercial approach including category management, customer portfolio, range, revenue and profit management
- Sales and customer focused back ground in delivering results
- Previous P&L experience and understanding of margins and costings
- Ability to build relationships that offer value for the customer and for Riverford
- Able to work under your own initiative

Riverford is a beautiful place to work, with lots of great people – and other benefits too. We offer 31 days’ holiday (including bank holidays), a generous company pension scheme and an annual profit share. We love food and hope you do too, so we give staff 25% off everything we sell on our website; heavily discounted organic breakfasts and lunches in the staff canteen; and free organic fruit and veg. There are also many social events for staff, with two big parties a year.
