Our prestigious client, based in Coventry, is looking to recruit an Engineer who has substantial experience of working with machine tools, both manual and CNC, lathes, milling machines and grinders to join our team to provide technical support and engage with staff of all levels including external partner and organisations as required.

You will need a flexible approach to work and a high level of competence covering a wide range of disciplines including metal fabricating, welding, fitting, pipe work, material sampling and testing.

Excellent communication skills and high level of health and safety awareness will be essential for the role in order to liaise with academics, students and other staff to set up, run and maintain specialist equipment and provide advice on the feasibility of practical experimental design and manufacture.

Main Duties:
- To operate and maintaining equipment such as machine tools, both manual and CNC, lathes. milling machine, grinders, welding equipment, various riveting and joining machinery.
- To consult and liaise with academics, students and other WMG staff on the design, manufacture and use of apparatus, and equipment. Dealing with both internal and external customers to meet technical specifications and achieve high levels of customer satisfaction.
- To provide support for both student teaching labs and student projects to advise concerning the feasibility of design, manufacture and use of equipment with regards to material selection and processing techniques. To teach and advise students on the use of equipment and apparatus within the organisation.
- To assist in the maintenance and continued development of a diverse range of specialist equipment and apparatus, in order to facilitate the research and teaching and to ensure this is done adhering to current legislation and in the most cost effective manner.

Person Specification:
* Successful completion of an Engineering Apprenticeship
* HNC/ONC Engineering or similar qualification or relevant experience in a related engineering discipline/environment
* Substantial experience of working with machine tools, both manual and CNC, lathes, milling machines and grinders
* Design and drawing skills using CAD packages
* A high level of competence covering a wide range of disciplines including metal fabrication, welding, fitting, pipe work, material sampling and testing.
* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
* Use of technical expertise and judgement to provide feasible and cost effective decisions on the provision of quality equipment and components
* Conversant in computer software software such as Microsoft Office
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* High degree of flexibility to respond to the changing needs of both academic and industry led research
* Ability to work independently to tight deadlines to deliver high quality outcomes
* A high level of health and safety awareness appropriate for the environment, and the ability to guide and supervise others in safe practice
