The Faculty of Construction and Engineering are currently seeking a Lecturer in Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Plumbing to teach air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing and associated subjects including employability skills and associated English and maths as appropriate. For Band 2 applications, you will undertake course leadership and curriculum development duties within the faculty.

You will have a Level 3 qualification or equivalent in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration or Plumbing, and have a willingness to work towards a recognised teaching qualification. You will have significant industrial experience in the refrigeration and air conditioning sector alongside significant plumbing experience.

The Faculty for Construction and Engineering Technologies currently offers courses to approximately 2200 students studying towards engineering and construction programmes within the areas of engineering (mechanical and electronic), fabrication and welding, electrical installations, brick work, wood trades, plumbing, vehicle body repair, painting and decorating, motor vehicle mechanics, construction and motor cycle service and repair qualifications.

The faculty currently operates from a main campus in Colchester which boasts purpose built facilities, comprising of twenty state of the art workshops and five state of the art laboratories.

As well as the main campus at Colchester the faculty also operates from four significant satellite sites at Braintree, Harwich, Clacton and Stanway, one of which was opened to support specific employer requirements and the growing work based learning demand within the region.

It is a proactive and forward thinking faculty which is well supported by the colleges' senior management team. The working environment within the faculty is excellent, with good rates of pay, realistic case loads and other benefits.

Further plans to expand and widen the colleges suite of STEM programmes are currently being realised including the construction of a new south wing at the Colchester campus which includes a further eight state of the art training workshops and a purpose build working at height training tower with an enclosed space training facility.

Job Description

Job Title: Lecturer in Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Plumbing

Reports to:

Area Head Plumbing and Business Development

Grade: Lecturer - Band 1: Range 23-30, or Lecturer - Band 2: Range 30-37

Overall Responsibility

To teach air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing and associated subjects including employability skills and associated English and maths as appropriate

For Band 2 Position

To undertake course leadership and curriculum development duties within the faculty

Main Duties

To prepare teaching / learning materials.

To conduct teaching/learning activities (including functional skills) appropriate to the needs of individual students, courses and the curriculum, keeping attendance records and maintaining student discipline.

To set, mark and record relevant coursework and assessments.

To counsel and guide students in respect of their academic progress and, as appropriate, their pastoral concerns and needs and making referrals to specialist services as appropriate; contributing to student reports and references as required.

To contribute to the work of subject and programme teams, committees and boards, as appropriate.

To, at all times, maintain high expectations of learners work, commitment, and behaviour, taking action to ensure the highest of standards are met.

To continuously evaluate and improve the quality of learning and teaching within your sessions utilising and engaging with the college's development and observation programmes.

To contribute to the development of curricula and specialist facilities within the Centre.

To actively promote the Institute's programmes, attend open evenings, parents evenings, careers events, school visits and similar marketing and publicity activities.

To maintain and extend links with external organisations as appropriate.

To participate in the colleges performance and development review scheme.

To develop and update personal professional expertise in the relevant subject areas.

GCSE's in English and Maths at level 9-4 or equivalent.

Level 3 or equivalent in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration or Plumbing

Evidence of C P D

Willingness to work towards a recognised teaching qualification

BTEC Higher National Cert or an equivalent level 4 qualification in a construction / M & E discipline

Teaching Qualification. e.g. Cert Ed

Assessor award

Internal verification award.

Knowledge /

Experience

Significant industrial experience in the refrigeration, air conditioning sector

Significant industrial experience in the plumbing sector

Supervisory experience and / or experience in dealing directly with customers, clients or students.
