Gatwick IRC’s Gatwick PDA and Borders is over two sites. IRC is an Immigration Removal Centre located on the outskirts of Gatwick Airport. Brook House IRC holds up to 486 men over the age of 18, in shared rooms over 4 wings and Eden Wing. Tinsley House IRC holds up to 162 men over the age of 18, in shared rooms over two floors. Gatwick PDA and Borders is located inside Tinsley but kept separate from the men. Gatwick PDA hold up to two pre planned families. Border families can arrive without pre warning, holds up to one family. Tinsley IRC was recently refurbished in 2016/17 and Gatwick PDA and Borders is immaculate with well-kept outside gardens and play facilities for children.
At Gatwick we provide primary care in a range of clinics, which include but is not limited to Dressings / Venepuncture/ Nurse Triage / Smoking Cessation / Chronic Disease clinics / Sleep Hygiene Techniques. We run drop in clinics every day and also have a booking appointment system. We have doctors attend site each day and on call facilities if needed. We have a visiting psychiatrist once a week, dentist fortnightly and optician monthly. We do not have any inpatient beds, therefore patients who need emergency care will be sent out to hospital or transferred to a centre that has those facilities. The needs of the men range from Physical / Social Care to Mental Health conditions. Gatwick IRC’s also has a dedicated Forward Team (Drug Alcohol Recovery) who mainly work at Brook House and visit Tinsley once a week. We also administer medication up to 4 times a day at both sites; at Brook House only this includes Controlled Drugs (CD’s) and Opiate Substitution Treatment (OST).
We are a team with experience in a variety of specialities from General, Learning Disabilities, Mental Health & Pharmacy Technician. Our dedicated team encourage nurses to develop and improve specific specialist roles e.g. Diabetes / Health promotion / Blood Pressure
At Gatwick IRC we are close to the M25 for easy access. We have a free staff car park at both sites and free canteen lunch at Tinsley.



Job Outline:

To lead a team of Primary Care Nurses within HMP/ HMYOI, providing clinical and operational leadership and management to the Nursing Team employed within the service. Establish inter-agency working where necessary to ensure good communication. Improve quality and standards of care for patients. Ensure that own clinical practice is consistent with autonomous practice within the role which covers areas of acute injury / illness and chronic disease management / health promotion / traditional patient care. This includes being the clinical lead in the collection, analysis, and the interpretation of data for Key Performance Indicators, Clinical Risk and Audit, related to G4S Clinical Governance programme. Contribute to providing senior management support and advice to Prison cluster out of hours via a formal on-call system.

Responsibilities:

Managerial


Oversee the operational day to day management for clinical healthcare delivery including actively monitoring patient satisfaction and patient health outcomes.


To have responsibility in ensuring both HJIP and QOF clinical key performance indicators (KPI’s) are met.


Manage and provide leadership and support to the Healthcare Team, inclusive of sub-contractors within the facility.


Ensure effective and documented orientation and support to new staff to the facility.


Support senior staff with supervision and development.


In the event of any emergency situation investigate and perform root-cause analysis to ensure lessons are learnt and implemented accordingly.


Supervise the collation of the off duty rota, ensuring effective use of resources.


Deputise for the Head of Healthcare in their absence when requested.


Ensure services are delivered within budgetary constraints, and be responsible and accountable in the annual budget setting.



Communication


Ensure that identified lines of communication are maintained with patients, colleagues, internal partnerships and external agencies to demonstrate politeness and courtesy and sensitivity promoting the corporate image of G4S.


Communicate and liaise with healthcare internally and externally and other stakeholders.


Play an integral role in ensuring that junior team members are aware of local and general Health & Safety matters, Clinical Governance and other ongoing issues, which arise including patient safety issues.


Complex and written verbal communications with solicitors and legal representatives


Provide and organise support through the means of clinical and managerial supervision in accordance with G4S company policy.


Demonstrate the ability to be able to motivate and persuade others through advanced communication skills.


Be actively involved in Management Forums and facilitate own team meetings and inter-team meetings to ensure flexible working and service provisions. Provide and circulate minutes and all relating documents/presentations formally and informally.


Effectively communicate with line managers.



Clinical Governance


Has full responsibility for monitoring compliance ensuring that physical health risk assessments of prisoners are completed as they come through reception. Ensure accurate records of identified needs are kept and those who require it are referred onto specialist services.


Has full responsibility for monitoring and compliance that risk assessments are completed which assess the potential of self-harm and that care plans are developed using ACCT documentation.


Has full responsibility for monitoring and compliance to review and evaluate nursing practice through clinical audit.


To lead and implement in setting standards of patient care based on sound research findings in collaboration with Head of Nursing.


Work within the G4S Clinical Governance framework in coordination with the Clinical Governance Lead, North East Prison Cluster.


Take a personal responsibility to maintain NMC registration and professional development in line with the expectations of the role.


Promote clinical excellence and best evidence based practice reflecting the G4S nursing philosophy.


Ensure full and accurate records are maintained and confidentially policy adhered to.


Be responsible for the reporting and investigation of Clinical and Non-Clinical Risk Assessments and incidents.


Be conversant and comply with G4S Health and Safety Policy and ensure implementation


Lead and or assist in the investigation of verbal and written complaints according to Company Policy.


Responsible for coordinating the collection of evidence for performance data to meet the requirements of external auditors i.e. CQC, HMIP.



Clinical Professional Responsibilities


Actively demonstrates and facilitates health promotion activities at all opportunities.


Act as a positive role model to staff and patients.


Assess individual’s health needs displaying excellent nursing skills.


Provide timely and expert assistance to the nursing team as and when required.


Create the provision of holistic care.


Hold clinics, give advice and administer treatment within local guidelines / protocols.


To maintain competencies associated with the role ensuring you are working within your own limitations / scope of practice.


Administer medication and advice within protocols.


Develop / maintain advanced clinical skills. i.e. prescribing, suturing, nurse led services.


Provide patient information and education.


Ensure G4S clinical protocols are adhered to at all times.


Work at all times within the NMC Code of professional practice.


Support line managers.


To participate and assist in the setting of standards of patient care based on sound research findings.


Maintain own personal and professional development plan, in line with G4S company and service objectives.


Appraise own performance and discuss development needs with mentors, supervisors and line manager. Appraise more junior staff members as applicable to the role / structure.


Participate in regular clinical supervision.


Support and supervise junior staff.


Be conversant and comply with the Service’s emergency procedures and ensure the nursing teams’ compliance to these procedures.


To maintain standards of infection control within the facility and during clinical care and to assist patients to maintain their own infection control needs.


Recognise innovation and promote clinical service improvement.


Be an integral part of the medicines management team conducting prescribing audits for all nurse prescribers to ensure safe medicines management.



Education and Training


To have a proactive approach to self-development, working within the NMC Code of Conduct.


Be involved in health care initiatives and health promotion within the facility.


To be responsible for the systematic monitoring, review and evaluation of nursing practice through clinical audit. Providing feedback results to all staff members to improve patient care in the facility.


To research, develop, introduce and apply up to date research-based findings to nursing practice, thus ensuring best evidence based practice is followed.


To lead and coordinate annual educational training programme within budgetary capability coordinating evidence for the CQC.


Show commitment to lifelong learning and a learning environment through personal example and dissemination of skills, attitude and knowledge to others.


Maintain NMC registration and professional development in line with the expectations of the role.


Comply with the G4S appraisal system and attend appraisal annually.


To participate in and deliver training within the facility.


Ensure updated mandatory training requirements are met and equipment training records are maintained.
