TEMP and FIXED TERM ASSISTANT HOUSEMISTRESS - BRUTON SOMERSETTerm-time only - Residential accommodation providedOur client is a community secondary school for the children of the Bruton area, a leading provider of state boarding education, and the principal provider of post -16 education for the students of East Somerset. The School has approximately 270 boarders, and boarding represents an essential element of the school's character and mission. Vacancies have arisen for a temporary Assistant Housemistress and a fixed term post both posts for an immediate start. A suitably experienced candidate is required as part of the residential team responsible for the welfare and pastoral care of male and female boarders resident in the house. During term-time to be on duty three and two evenings (from 3.40 to 11.00 pm) respectively and one full day each weekend (8.00 am to 11.00 pm), other than exeats. The evening duty will include being on-call overnight and undertaking wake-up duties that morning (from 7.00 to 8.00 am). This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic experienced and flexible individual to join their dedicated and friendly professional team. •Be conversant with the National Minimum Boarding Standard and be aware of the post holder's responsibility towards these
•Provide high quality pastoral support for those in their care and ensure appropriate care is provided to meet the needs of the individual
•Help to organise the basic routine of the house with assistance from other staff and prefects
•Actively support the social development of the boarders resident in the house
•Help to co-ordinate and implement boarders' activities with other staff, including sport and trips
•Supervise tea on duty days
•Undertake wake-up and bedtime routines of the boarders resident in the house on duty days
•Supervise the distribution of supper on duty days
•Supervise in-house After School Learning (ASL)
•On duty days distribute pocket money keeping accurate records of income and expenditure
•Drive the minibus for house trips and activities
•Participate in the weekend rota to supervise meals and some boarders' activities
•To direct other house staff (ie. House Tutors) in the supervision of boarders and the provision of activities
•Liaise with parents on all matters relating to boarders in the house on duty days ensuring that the Housemaster or Housemistress is advised when appropriate
•Record any maintenance requirements and issues relating to the day to day running of the house and bring to the attention of the Housemaster or Housemistress
•Attend weekly residential house staff meetings
•Attend termly full boarding staff meetings and on occasions may be required to attend other meetings of the boarding community
•For residential staff, there is a requirement to be resident during the quiet hours (ie. from 11.00 pm) unless otherwise arranged with the Director of Boarding and Senior House Staff
•Promote, reinforce and model the school's commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
•Play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and to encourage staff and students to follow this example
•Promote actively the school's corporate policies
•Continue personal professional development as agreed including attending training sessions or training courses even when these may be outside duty days
•Undertake other responsibilities as determined by the Head, following consultation
