Role Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding and dynamic software delivery team within Equiniti as part of the Equiniti Xanite business.

The Senior Java Developer is focused on the delivery of quality software throughout all stages of the Software Development Lifecycle Process (SDLC) across all of the Xanite product set. The Senior Java Developer will be expected to work closely with the Cardiff and Chennai development teams and help champion Java best practices across the development disciplines. The role should look to introduce and support new and innovative ideas and tooling into the EQ IT delivery process and be constantly challenging both the Cardiff and Chennai development teams and others in the adoption of these.

Department Information

The core activities of the Xanite Software Development team are to:

  • Deliver Innovative software solutions to meet the needs of both the internal and external client base
  • Provide technical input to the Xanite product set and ensure that the technology roadmap aligns to business strategy
  • Support the Equiniti business by delivering market leading technology solutions
  • Create a centre of excellence for all Java development within the Equiniti Group

As a Senior Java Developer, you will be responsible for;

  • Analysing business and technical requirements
  • Provide work estimates based on analysed business and technical requirements
  • Create appropriate documentation based on analysed business and technical requirements
  • Designing and writing software based on appropriate/relevant documentation
  • Constructing and documenting unit and system test plans
  • Performing unit and system testing of software changes based on written test plans
  • Performing software handovers
  • Maintaining systems by correcting software defects
  • Continually updating technical knowledge/skills by attending internal and/or external courses, reading manuals and other material
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across UK and Chennai delivery teams.
  • Recommending and maintaining tools and processes that support the Xanite function
  • Participate in the solution level best practices, standards, and policies as it relates to software development
  • Provides a central point for technical development lead/mentor to all development teams
  • Work closely with solution designers and QA teams
Skills, Capabilities and Attributes
  • Wide-ranging experience using Java tech stacks and other programming languages
  • Experience of working on large, complex systems
  • Passionate about technology, constantly seeking to learn and improve skillset
  • Extensive knowledge of common SDLCs and how to apply them in a delivery context
  • Experience in improving company’s technical awareness, depth and use of technology across the business
  • Ability to communicate about IT and technology in plain-English and in non-technical terms to colleagues and Clients.
  • Confident communicator, able to present in front of clients and build strong working relationships
  • Ability to work calmly and methodically when under pressure
  • Degree educated, 2.1 or above in a technical discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Software development

  • Experience in enterprise Java application development
