Product Development Technologist role

We are seeking a suitably qualified Product Development Technologist/NPD Technologist to join the established processing team of one of the major, well established fish processing plants in the UK. As a suitably qualified R&D Scientist (recent graduate, or undergraduate looking for a one-year placement) your role will be to offer support to the Product Development Manager in the delivery of NPD and EPD projects.

The Company

This prestigious FMCG company, based in Grimsby over three sites, deal with chilled, coated and smoked goods and employ over 1000 (including agency) staff offer an exciting new role for an enthusiastic Food Development Technologist. A knowledge of working with coated products would be a distinct advantage.

Key Responsibilities of Product Development Technologist

  • Scope covers all NPD, EPD and cost saving projects for new and current products.
  • Work alongside chefs on new briefs and concepts to ensure they are viable for factory scale up.
  • Plan and execute factory trials and ensure trial data is accurately recorded for costing updates; production meeting updates, relevant technical and development meetings.
  • Maintain accurate product files and take responsibility for relevant parts of product specifications and factory SOP's.
  • Present to internal and external customers as appropriate.
  • Establish effective working relationships with the customer, suppliers and all internal departments.
  • Good working knowledge of all plant machinery, capabilities and programmable information.
  • Project work and new machine commissioning trials.

Personal Specification - R&D Scientist (NPD & EPD)

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to different processes and systems.
  • Must be able to work independently, manage own responsibilities and work to deadlines.
  • Confident and effective communicator.
  • Must be able to work across multiple sites and be flexible about working hours including early, late and weekend work when required.
  • Driving licence is essential, with the ability to travel.
  • A perfectionist. Constantly looking at ways to improve what we do; identifies fresh approaches and shows a willingness to question traditional assumptions.
  • A problem solver. Analyses problems and finds solutions.
  • Attention to detail is key. Must have the ability to get things right first time.
  • Hands on style. Prepared to personally run factory trials and prepare samples.
  • Must be able to work in a team: listening, helping and asking for help is essential.
  • Clear, effective and confident communication to a broad range of internal and external customers.
