Forge a career in HR, and help us make this an inspiring place to work, where everyone can feel at home, give their best, and develop their talents.

You’ll learn about the vital role HR plays in the bank and the values that unite us across different brands, locations and business areas. Your passion for people – how we communicate and work together – will be key in shaping our people strategy going forward.

About the programmesThe aim of this two year programme is to equip you with the skills and experiences you’ll need to become a leading HR professional.

As a Graduate trainee you’ll learn how HR functions in a large financial organisation, and gain hands on experience in a wide range of areas, from recruitment and employee wellbeing to policy development, business change and leadership support.

You’ll not only be learning, but bringing new ideas to the table, and helping us deliver the strategy which underpins how we work together and support each other. You’ll also have the chance to get involved with some exciting digital innovation projects that are transforming how we work.

You’ll be rewarded with a starting salary of £27,000. On top of your salary you’ll also have access to our flexible benefits package.

After a full induction, the programme is structured around four six month rotations, each based in different areas of HR. Whatever path you take through the rotations, you can look forward to:

Working with HR Partners and experts in fields like Reward, Policy & Proposition and Learning & DevelopmentSupporting change projects from a people perspectiveBuilding excellent project and stakeholder management skillsDeveloping the confidence and influencing skills to raise ideas and challenge the status quoAt the end of the two years, we hope to see you join us in a permanent role. We’ll be supporting your career development throughout, but particularly during your last rotation we’ll focus on what roles you could step into next. This programme will be excellent preparation for a wide range of career paths, and some of the possible roles you could move into include:

Before you start, you’ll be paired with a ‘buddy’ (a graduate already on the programme) who’ll be there to help you get settled, answer any questions, and share their experiences.

You’ll also be assigned a Graduate Coach and a Placement Manager. Your Graduate Coach will be there to provide support throughout the programme, and will work with you to create a personal Capability Plan; your Placement Manager will provide rotation specific support, and will change with each placement. Together, they’ll help you reflect on your progress, develop your career, and build your professional network.

For a fuller picture of how you’ll progress through the programme and the support you’ll receive at each stage, check out the Learning Journeybelow.

InductionThis will include meeting your buddy and support team, getting to know your fellow graduates, and taking part in an in-depth induction period, which will give you a broad understanding of how RBS works, our values, and our goals.

You’ll hear from leaders across our business and be brought up to speed on key topics like our customers, bank structure, entrepreneurship, risk and control, technology and digital innovation.

RotationsAfter the induction, you’ll begin your first rotation. You’ll be assigned a line manager and team in HR and be immersed in their work for 6 months.

For the remaining rotations you’ll have time to discuss options with your support team and apply to the areas that interest you. The final selection will depend on both your motivations and the business’ needs.

The scale and diversity of RBS means you’ll benefit from an excellent range of placement options. The overall aim of the rotation system is to give you exposure to the full breadth of work we do. So, wherever you go, variety is key.
